In my macbook pro a1706 very unexpectedly, the SSD went into read-only mode.
The Macbook stopped booting both in normal mode and recovery mode.
I went in recovery mode from the internet and saved all my data. After it run diskutility and tried to delete partitions and erase the disk - nothing worked, everywhere the answer is permission denied. After that I tried diskutil and fsck from terminal and everywhere the same answer - permission denied or file system in read-only mode.
DD doesn't want to work either - it says read-only filesystem.
After that I tried to boot from a boot disk with Ubuntu and from the terminal also tried to delete partitions and dd, also does not help.
What else can I try?
Or only replacement of the SSD?

Thanks for your advice.

Sounds like the SSD failed, but did so by going into "read only mode".
If that's what happened, consider yourself LUCKY.
You were still able to access it and get data from it.

I believe with most SSD failures, the drive just "goes dark".
That means, "nothing at all" from it.
Can't be read from, can't be written to, can't even be SEEN.
I've had a couple of SSDs fail in this manner.

If the drive is replaceable on that model (2016?), you could try swapping it out.
Be aware that 3rd party replacement drives will probably run a little hotter AND draw more battery power.

Beyond that, I don't think you're going to be able to revive or use the factory-installed drive again.

Thanks for your reply.
Unfortunately SSD here is soldered directly to the board.
I thought maybe I can play with some commands from terminal or try some other tools?

If the drive has a hardware failure, or failure within its controller circuitry, then I doubt that ANYTHING you try will revive it.

Is there a brick-n-mortar Apple Store anywhere near?
You might bring it to them and see if they can get it working again.

If they tell you "it's a hardware failure", my advice is to start shopping for a replacement.
Remember that new MacBook Pro's are coming in about three more weeks.
