Hi all! I have a first generation iPhone and want to get the new one in July. I am confused as to how to go about this. Is the NEW iPhone using a different service? Am I stuck with my old phone until my contract is up?

Also, if I have to keep my old iPhone, will Apple be upgrading the software for these "old" iPhones to make them faster as well?

Just wondering what my options are and what is going on with the AT&T thing, etc. Thanks for any help!

Different service? It's still with AT&T. So far AT&T is saying if you have an iPhone you will be eligible to upgrade to the newer one. The data cost will increase to $30 (as opposed to the $20 you're paying now).

If by "faster" you're referring to 3G, then no - 3G is hardware, not software. Your phone isn't capable of it.

Okay COOL! So, then I can just buy the NEW 3G and be on my way! Not too shabby. I was under the impression that Apple switched services or something so... sorry, I get confused a lot : )

Thanks for the help! I really appreciate it!
