When you create an account with iTunes to be able to buy from them, can apple tell what songs you have in your library that haven't been bought from them? I was thinking about creating an account to buy a couple things, but I have some songs on there from mix cd's that I got from friends and some from the internet. Is this an issue?

If i update my itunes software is that going to render my jailbroken ipod useless, or will I just have to re synch it and that's it?

No Apple won't be able to see the song in your library; if they did it would be big a major privacy issue and Apple would be in big trouble. They only know what you bought from them...

And what's a jailbroken iPod?

You shouldn't have to re-sync your iPod. But then again, who knows.

Apple can't see your iTunes library - they only have a record of the songs you have purchased from them.
