Need to bring an adapter to a friend who has a 2017 MBP and wants to connect this digital camera from around 2015:

What do people here recommend? Should she daisy-chain her current cable with this:

I can't seem to find any cables that would connect directly from an older digital camera to a new MBP, but I don't use any non-Apple technology, so I'm not sure. Thanks very much.

EDIT: I also found these two, but it's unclear if either of these is better than the item listed above:

Thanks.

What are you looking at Lightning for? The MBP doesn't have Lightning, only the iPads and iPhones do. Welcome to the new Apple. Confusing AF!

Anyway, what you need is a simple USB-C to USB-A dongle. Not necessarily the Apple one, there are millions out there.

Like this one: https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Adapte...rd_wg=FIAvy&psc=1&refRID=46NCV5X9J10TJM478PXT

Or this one: https://www.amazon.com/AUKEY-Adapte...F8&qid=1515442345&sr=8-3&keywords=aukey+usb-c

Plug that into the MBP 2017, then use the camera's USB cable to plug that into the dongle - done.

Apple. It just works.

Thanks for the quick replies. Knew I could count on this crowd.

I love Apple, but all of these damn dongles and adapters are a headache.

I looked at the specs at the URL you provided.
The camera uses SD cards and has a USB port.

Your friend -could- use a USB cable (with the appropriately-sized connector on the camera end, you'll have to check that).

BUT... I much prefer to take the card OUT OF the camera, then use a USB3 card reader to connect to the computer and "bring in" the images that way.

You DO NOT WANT any kind of "Lightning" connector -- WON'T FIT.

You DO want a USB SD card reader.
I'd look for one that has a USB-c connector and is USB3 (in terms of speed).
Here are some on amazon:

Thanks for the replies. I'll look into those additional options/suggestions.

She's not all that tech savvy, so a cable might be better than the card reader, but the WiFi-enabled card might be even better yet. Thanks again.

The only headache in this specific scenario is that Nikon doesn't make clear what USB port that have on the camera. Seems to be USB micro B, as mentioned above, but the cables I find looks slightly weird. In the USB world we have USB-A, USB-B (which comes in multiple sizes and shapes), and then you have USB 2 and USB 3 which potentially use different connectors. The modern standard (also what Apple uses, as they make very clear on the specs) is USB-C, which is a single universal connector that is supposed to replace all this A, B-micro, B-mini whatever combinations nonsense we have right now, so that we finally have proper standardised unified cables.

Thanks for the reply. She was able to plug this same camera directly into a 2011 MBP (13"?) with the cable provided by Nikon, if that helps narrow it down any. (I used a 17" PowerBook all the way until summer 2012, so I don't have experience with the 2011 MBP's specs.)
