Today I just picked up a 38mm Space Gray Aluminum that came with black Woven Nylon bands.

The bands are borderline too small for my wrist. Even though it's very comfortable, it's set to the last hole and a pain to put on.

Can you guys recommend me good quality and comfortable 3rd party bands that are longer than what Apple provided for the 38mm. And also, are the series 1 bands compatible with series 2?

Yes all the series bands are compatible. Look on Amazon for great 3rd party bands. MoKo makes great ones.

42mm has longer and wider nylon band. I switched from 38 watch to 42 for this and other reasons.
Y-Band also make great bands, especially the nylon ones. I have several variations from them and they are easy to interchange. They sell on Amazon.

I've got two bands for my 38 Apple Watch Sport (space gray) from Strapped & Co., one sport band (just like Apple's) and one leather. Both are high quality -- I would recommend them.
