I am scheduled to receive a Macbook Pro laptop this week. :)

This is my first Mac and I have not set up a network system before. Just trying to plan to make this transition as painless as possible.

I would like to access the internet and some files from my windows based pc.

What router would you recommend and any tips would be appreciated?

Thanks

Well anyone will do. I guess is all depends on what you what to do with it. I use Belkin and AE which work fine on my end

Thanks. I was looking at reviews for Linksys G and Belkin Pre-N then I wondered if Apple's wireless setup would be any better. At that point I started confusing myself.
I would like to have reliable extended range since I plan on being in an area
that is at least 80 - 100 feet away from the base.

I used to have my iMac, iBook and a peecee connected to a linksys wireless G router and could communicate and transfer files among all three just fine.

Really though, why would you possibly want to mix apples and orang.. err peecees?

I have had lots of luck with lynksys products, and the airport express, which may be updated tommorow looks set to be a sexy bit of kit.

I'm on a well-rounded diet.:)

I have a Sony Vaio that has been/still going strong for 4+ years of almost 24/7. But I have outgrown the memory system. I am doing more work with pictures and videos. This computer will still be used by other family members as the new Mac is all mine.

Applications that I enjoy using are Microsoft Office, especially Outlook since it syncs with a Siemens SX-66 phone really nice, Roxio, Paint Shop Pro, Fxfoto, Evernote, and Firefox. Looking forward to using the Mac equivalent or conversions.

My decision to purchase the MacBook Pro 17" was influenced by a lot of favorable reviews, especially Consumer Reports. Still waiting for delivery from the Apple Store.

I think I may just purchase the Linksys router since I can pick up locally and the reviews seem pretty good.
