I need recommendations for a screen capture app that will allow me to capture an area of the screen showing a drop down menu, the menu selection, and the arrow cursor. It would also be nice if I could resize the selection area before finalizing the capture.

The built in Shift-Cmd-4 does not capture the menu selection nor the cursor. I used to use SnapZ Pro for many years, but I had to leave it behind when I moved on to Yosemite. SnapZ Pro stopped support after 10.9.

Thanks for any recommendations.

I'd normally recommend Little Snapper but the company that makes it, replaced this handy little utility with a more expensive one (ember) that I don't think its worth it.

Thanks for all the great suggestions. I'll start checking them.

Does anybody have experience with Snagit?

Thanks again to everyone that took the time to reply!

I downloaded many trials and settled on Voila. It did exactly what I wanted with less hassle. I also liked that I could download a pdf of the User Manual to see how things worked and the features. It also had a fully functional trial (not so for SnapNDrag without buying the Pro). Skitch was my number 2 choice (great price - free, but it did not capture the cursor in the menu grab and Little Snitch showed that it wanted to do a many connections to the internet).

Now I have to go back and delete all the apps and hidden files of the apps that I didn't choose. ;)

BTW: I did use Snagit on my work PC (Windows XP) many years ago, but it was more expensive than Voila (which did what i needed)).

Glad you are happy with your choice the Dev of Viola was a member here but was banned for posting a link to a iMore review. You'll find tons of vids via youtube.

Thank you for updated information. I downloaded the update and tried it, but decided to stay with the extra features of Voila. I don't need 2 screen capture apps. It would have been nice if Ambrosia would have responded with the information about a pending update BEFORE I purchased Voila.
