Hi All,

I have a Mac mini server running ML Server and hosting the domain nix.***************.com (Blocked for security purposes)

I have the dns service and VPN service up and running and I am able to connect to the VPN.

I have an Xserve running with Lion Server with the name MediaServer.local when I connect to the vpn and open screen sharing or try to connect to port 9091 in the browser I cant type
mediaserver.local:9091 and connect i always have to type the ip 10.0.1.10:9091 how can i make it a little more user friendly and just type something along the lines of mediaserver.local:9091 when i am accessing my network over VPN

Thanks

Justin

In the OS X Server->DNS settings create an entry for hostname "mediaserver.private" with the IP 10.0.1.10.

Then make sure that the VPN settings provide the address of the VPN server on your 10.0.1.x network as the first name server provided to clients. (The "Edit" button beside the DNS settings on the VPN panel.

With these settings you will be able to use "mediaserver.private:9091" to connect to the media server from the client.
