im not addicted to myspace, i just found my friend after 4 years and i can't talk to him... i dont have internet at home. ok i just need a way to talk to him , to send him my phone number... and hey, it could be worse. I could be a text talker.

Dude, really...you don't need to justify to people on this thread why you need to get on whatever you want.

Google for VPN, HTTP traffic and SSH tunneling .

Good luck :)

it makes him

tongue in cheek

Sneaky with Teh White...I was ready to take up in arms with that response :)

No, its blocked because they don't want us on it, but it's not against the rules to bypass websense and go to the site. It's a loophole sort of.

WTF?

So they spent the money to license and install WebSense, just to keep honest people honest? It's no wonder schools are using outdated materials if they blow cash like this.

Using an computer system requires compliance with the owner's terms and conditions. The school (well, the school system) owns the computer lab there. Your usage of the computer implies consent to those terms, and I have yet to see any term that would make software bypass permissible, or would otherwise condone or even overlook violation of network usage policies, including applied web filters.

You don't need to use MySpace. And if you really need to get in contact with the guy, I find it hard to believe that there isn't location where you can use MySpace uninhibited within a 1.5 mile radius. I'd go farther out, but 3mi/RT is reasonable walking depending on the weather. But, then again, this is pretty urgent.

In the end, I think your best bet is to make friends with one of the kids at school, present time. I'm sure one of them would let you come over and use their connection. Plus, then your only friend wouldn't be 4 years removed.

walking distance- i live out on a farm type area across from some railroad tranks and a field of soy beans. not much within walking distance. closest library is around 8-10 miles...

all i need is a proxy that i can use to get around websense...

Buy a computer. A PC with windows 98 can easily be had for under $30 and can usually do simple tasks like myspace (Unless it's one of those profiles filled with useless crap) Mine is only 200 MHz and it does fine.

Ironically, the only reason I'm able to post this right now is because WebSense is down at our school right now. :p

i can't get internet at home, ok dial up is 14.4 kbps, dish don't recieve out here, and cable is'nt run here either... AT&T sucks...

then get dial up, it's better than nothing, but stop asking us how to break your school's rules and bypass their filter.

But but but.... I live on a desert island with no phones and have no real world social networking capacity and the only contact with the outside world is a one-room schoolhouse with a T1 and my former best friend is in mortal danger if I can't contact him as soon as possible he'll surely die!

okay i'll stop i'll go find another site/forum that can help me...

You could have Googled it, too.

Seems websense has no problem letting you browse MR.

So funny! I have realized that I spend too much time here. When I suggested he walk, I was actually thinking about letting him know that he was lucky not to be getting distance advice from pseudobrit. But, I know - I didn't say it so I don't get credit. Stupid rules.

Anyway, I don't think it is his former best friend. Try former only friend. Even if he can't ride into town, you would think he could ride to a friend's house. Only if that destination doesn't exist, can he be required to get into town.

And maybe his 14.4 connection only works when he isn't using it.

ok

Question for everybody else - wouldn't it be faster for Guy Smiley here to go through someones suggestion than to bouce from forum to forum for help?

where do you think i got all my other proxys i used... and yeah they do, had to use google cache to get here...

MR is maybe not the best place to come to ask for this type of advice since very few of us have problems getting around software web filters. Which is not to say we don't have them; we just typically play by most of the rules.

For instance, my workplace monitors usage so I don't goof off on the internet on their network. I don't attempt to bypass this effort because I respect their property.

Now if you'd had a problem configuring your Airport Base Station or setting up a router MR would be the right place. If you want advice about how to break out of filtering software, you might want to go somewhere with a large concentration of 14 year-olds who have a regular problem with this sort of thing.

Coming up with a litany of excuses as to why you need to bypass the filtering software and why you can't act on a single one of the very thoughtful suggestions already proffered makes it pretty clear you've brought a single-mindedness to the issue that is merely serving to irritate people here.

I also get the distinct vibe that you want to bypass the filter for more than just using myspace once, which is why you won't just use a library.

Install Term-vt100 on your iPT or iPhone (or if possible, use Terminal on mac), use the command "ping myspace.com" and use the IP that comes up.
