Hi Folks,

I would be ordering M2 air soon. I would be fine with base storage 256gb on M2 air as i dont need more than that.

How about the RAM.. 8gb or 16gb ?

My workflows include like 10-15 tabs max safari/brave, spotify streaming, notes, python/java coding(learning data analysis and automated testing), office apps, occasional video/photo edits.

would base config suffice for above tasks for 4-5 years. or should i upgrade RAM.

I think if i do any upgrades on m2 air, its rather better to get 1699 deal on m1 MBP 14 from bestbuy.

I agree, but don't forget the better portability, battery life and weight of the MBAir. If these are important to you, I would not hesitate to get the MBAir with 16GB RAM, even though the 14" MBP is a better "deal." The base 14" MBP is a great machine (I have one), but it is a bit chunky compared to the MBAir. This matters to some people a lot, while others do not care in the least.

No brainer. 16GB all the way.
For your use I would do 16gb ram.
Hmm.. last year with m1 i got advised 8gb ram for similar tasks. Heh, i dont know if should spend any amount on m2 upgrades as 1699 m1 14 mbp is such a nice deal

Thanks for putting out that perspective. Yes i do would like a lighter machine. I am currently using mbp 13 2010. Thats like 4.5 pounds pheww. I believe m1 14 pro is lighter than that for sure.

14" MBP is 3.5 lbs, which is not very heavy. It just feels very solid and dense, if that makes any sense.
M2 Air is 2.7 lbs, which is noticeably less.
