I will only put an Apple battery in it. Can you suggest a source? How do I tell the part number of the replacement battery? I see references to various Axxxx numbers.

Thanks

AXXXX numbers is what you can use. Since you did not specify what model year you have, I can not help.

iFixit can help you determine what battery you need.

MacSales has a good battery replacement. Perfect fit too. The price is good too.

There are a lot of cheap 3rd party batteries on eBay, but I don't recommend them.

Why?

I will give my 2 cents here on non-stock Apple battery.

I bought battery from iFixit for my mid-2011 macbook air about 2 years ago. The battery did not last as long as the stock one as "service battery" is listed in my battery icon.

As of this moment, the battery will lose charge after an hour.

If you are replacing your machine soon (in ~2 years), it might worth buying from iFixit to save the hassle from visiting Apple store and pay a premium for the battery.

Otherwise it might worth paying a visit to Apple store.

I ended up buying and installing a battery from OWC, which has been performing well since this weekend when I put it into service.
