    Hi
I have an old Ipad 4 that is still pretty near and dear, works great, the only problem is I waited too long to update it. I am still running OS8xx because it runs out of memory so quick. Now my mail account won't work anymore unless I am at OS9xx but it looks like I can only update to OS 10. I am afraid OS 10 will eat all my memory.
Is there anyway to update only to OS9?
Will my ipad run on OS10 and still be able to have any memory?
    Thanks for any help!!

Do you have a iCloud account? If so follow these steps
    1. Delete any apps you don't use anymore. Go through and delete everything except what you know you use on a daily basis.
    2. Make sure your photos and other documents are also backed up either through the app using iCloud or manually using a service like Google Photos or Dropbox.
    3. Go to settings and delete Safari History/Cache and verify your apps that you use are backing up to iCloud if they support iCloud syncing.
    4. Go to iCloud and tell it to backup your new "clean iPad"
    5. Connect to iTunes and tell iTunes to entirely restore your iPad. Deleting everything it will install a entirely fresh copy of iOS 10.3.1 onto your iPad 4.
    6. Once the restore completes you'll see the "Welcome to iPad Screen" at this point disconnect the iPad from your computer and begin setting it up directly from the iPad.
    7. Setup will ask you do you want to set up iPad as new or Restore from iCloud backup
    8. Click Restore from iCloud backup and sign into and verify your iTunes account. Once this verifies your iPad will restore your iPad's apps to their previous conditions, you will have to resign into your apps again though.

Will this take all my memory? I use everything on my iPad and have deleted it to only essential. I only have 16gb. Is there any way to just do 9 not 10?
