My husband has had this G4 for about 10 years or more.. He loves it, and it works just fine, but he has started a photography business and needs MORE. We dont have a ton of money to spend on a new desktop (we got our macbook pro a few years ago) but we decided we REALLY need it.

The desk top will be used for photo editing (rather large files) and a lot of internet stuff (for his website)

So what do you think is a good option?? The iMac is definitely within our price range, is this still a step up from the G4? I am assuming so.

The thing is, that computer is a freak bull. It is amazing for how old it is. Its my way of PROVING to pc owners that macs are better (i have never met a 10y/oPC) But its time.. I need to sell it or put it to rest.

So i am taking suggestions on which computer we should get.

I know the bigger the better, but the money isnt there.. whats the lowest i can get but will still do the job of editing large files quickly

The Imac is for sure a step up as well as an excellent machine. You won't regret the power and beauty it has to offer. You said something intreasting that I would like to address. You said that your g4 is a "Bull" sort of speak and in defense of pc's have you ever met somebody who wanted to keep their pc for 10 years. The thing about macs is there more expensive and your getting the "best" for that period of time, however pcs are just so much more beyond compatiable with bigger better and faster parts and cheap that theirs no need to keep a computer for so long. Well sorry for going off topic, once again the imac is an excellent computer and i say go for it.

thats the thing.. Ebay is kinda all over the place, and i havent ONCE seen the one that i actually have.. so i dont really know.

As for the PC comment.. i am talking about the average computer user who just uses their computer for as long as possible and when it dies, instead of doing upgrades, its dead.. My point is, an untouched, unupgraded (except for operating systems) a mac will still just work.. it might not be as fast as the newest computer, but it doesnt degrade like most PCs would

we have a LaCie Blue III 22 which is an AWESOME but huge.. I would offer that with it, they are selling for about $300 just for the monitor.. I make a new thread for the G4 in the powermac forum though because people were getting cinfused that i had an imac G4 and this is a powermac...
