I was trying to delete free space using disk utility program and unfortunately it was broken off just before it ended. Now I cannot get my computer to boot up as the amount of free space is now only 200 MB. I need to delete the Temporary file that was created with the use of Terminal from the Install Disk but I dont know how to locate the file or what to type there. Urgent help please? Thanks

You could run a program like Disk Inventory X, WhatSize, OmniDiskSweeper and/or GrandPerspective from a USB when you start up from the install disk. That should help you identify the huge temp file that is clogging up and then delete if from the terminal.

If you want to go with just the terminal then you need the df and du tools to find the file you are looking for.

had to reinstall. Found no satisfactory help on any forum. Also not from Apple telephone support. Disappointing really.
