Can anyone recommend a portable wifi range extender for travel? Amazon isn't much help in this area, with mixed comments as to overall ease of use and quality. USB Type C would be a plus. Thank you -

what do you mean by extender? Typically an extender augments an existing wifi network, but if you are traveling , it is unclear why that would be helpful. What is the problem you want to solve?

so you want an external USB wifi device. I am not aware of any USB-C models and you'll need to do your homework to find MacOS compatible models.

What about the Synology RT201600ac Router for the somewhat Time Machine with an external disk) and extend thus router with the MR 2200ac!

This Way you could have great coverage all over your home! Synology is only router manufacturing router that has Time Machine Server inside it along with VPN app to run an VPN service (If you want to)!

Need more detail. If you are traveling I assume that you are using the WiFi supplied by a Hotel, Airport, restaurant? WiFi extenders are normally setup as extensions of the base router, and as such setup needs to be done via that router.

If you have access to ethernet and want to setup your own WiFi router that's another thing.
