This could just be needing to charge, but sometimes the trackpad on Siri remote is either unresponsive, anything from: erratic onscreen movements, (swiping up multiple apps to close them, Fast/reverse during movies etc), to AppleTV acknowledging an action after few seconds vs instantly..

Once i un-pair, then re-pair siri remote, everything ok again. (Till the next time it happens)

I'm thinking of buying new siri remote to test, but before i do, is this just battery related? It's 2/4 full currently.

This is the whole reason I came to this forum.

I've been having this same problem. I have tried charging it when it happens and the amount of charge makes no difference. I am curious if you ever found a solution.

I did have to get my aTV remote replaced, it was very erratic, one swipe on the home screen would do either nothing, move one icon over, or go all the way across. and would occasionally reboot (I would see the "remote connected" pop-up randomly)

also I've discovered, I'm having some work done on my apartment, so everything is out of place right now.
my aTV normally sits behind the TV, but it's now sitting more exposed and seems to be working much smoother.

and, you don't have to fully unpair the remote, just hold menu and volume up for a couple seconds, that will reboot the remote. I believe this is actually paring, but it seems to help when the remote gets really wonky.
