Random curiosity....

How many of you have heard the term "Negative Nancy"

EDIT: How old were you when you first heard said term and where (state, county, country) you have heard it.

Trying to figure out if its just a local thing or not.

Thanks everybody!

I first heard the term "negative nancy" here on MacRumors from the kind fellow Teh Don Ditty on 11:58am, August 11, 2007. And i'm in high school.

But seriously, I might have heard people say that before... but I don't really remember. I was able to guess the meaning pretty well before I read on UD what it meant.

I think i heard it first in 8th grade in DC (but I'm not sure where the teacher was from who said it) along with other similar ones like "Fretty Betty."

there's a long wait for this dim sum restaurant but it's not hard to NOT be a negative nancy as I can still browse MR. :p

TDD first said the phrase to me er... a month ago. Never heard it before. Born, raised, and still living in Northern California.

I grew up in Michigan, and I'm pretty sure I heard it there, probably from old mean church ladies, when I was a child. :p It's the sort of thing they'd say. If I didn't want to do anything (when I was four) they would call me "Mohan No-han." Of course, they're probably dead by now. ;) :D

And now I want dim sum.

I've never heard of Negative Nancy, but I have heard of a Nancy Boy.

I also know "Chatty Kathy"

I don't remember when I heard it, but it seems like it was a long time ago so I was in the west somewhere.

heh, I always thought the opposite of "plain Jane" was "fancy Nancy."

but apparently Nancy prefers to be inimical and adverse:confused:
