Negative Notifications?

A few days ago, I saw this next to the Messages app. It looks like a negative sign next to the 3 in the notification bubble. Has anyone seen this and if so, could they explain it? (Sorry about the image, wish that I had a RMBP)

I've never seen that before. Odd to be sure, and I haven't a clue what it means.

It certainly peaked my curiosity...what happened when you clicked on it? Anything unusual?

Nope. Just took me to the messages that I had received.

I encountered that a couple of times, didn't pay much attention to it because it's just a bug.
Mine was showing "-1".
