Geektool nerdtool: script window showing once, then disappearing

on mtn lion, two monitors

starting nerdtool, adding shell log (with date cmd by default); it shows up fine top right corner on main screen. once it loses focus or I switch to another application, the date is gone, deactivating/reactivation does not help 😕

any ideas?

got the same problem on an old imac4.1 running 10.6.8....
