Sure, when you look at it that way ...
But when you consider *actively* allowing your home system to *slow* heating or cooling based on the fact that you have left, it's not a bad concept. The concept is probably already in 1970s or 1980s sci-fi/fantasy, but the tools to effectively make it happen are pretty 2012, and it takes time to execute on those tools to actually get a useful result.
Don't be such a luddite!![]()
I guess the thing about this is that Google, an already ultra-creepy company for many of us, will now 'know' when we come, and when we go. They will be able to get way more familiar with us than any corporation should be.
Given their history, what with slurping up everyone's wifi, and all of the other 'big brother' stuff they have been accused of (no to mention aiding communist and repressive governments), you would have to admit that having them know almost literally everything about you could be a little disconcerting.
Like, what's next? Your droid phone, sensing that your house thinks you aren't there, then sends you a message that Ben & Jerry's is on sale at the nearest 'hypermarket' in aisle 9, and oh, you are going the wrong way to take advantage of this great super awesome spectacular sale of the century this week.
Fearing the overreach of corporations in this over surveilled 'future' we have isn't being a luddite, it's being sensible. And Google is not above selling your 'information' to anyone. Including the government, or any sub-agency of it.
The old adage that 'You might be paranoid, but that doesn't mean they aren't out to get you' means more now than when it was coined I'd wager.
