ADT has gone Full Google and uses Nest equipment instead of coming up with their own, or using a perhaps less controversial system from someone else.
Whelp, I'm running my original Nest learning thermostat with HomeKit through Homebridge. It works great!
Just turn off the schedule and learning features. I don't think the newer version even has the learning feature anyways. Can someone tell me if any Nest thermostat has a "dumb" mode where it just lets a human set the temperature? I want the connectivity (check and change the temperature from my ipad) but not the smart features (it uses an algorithm to change the temperature on its own.)
Certainly. Can someone tell me if any Nest thermostat has a "dumb" mode where it just lets a human set the temperature? I want the connectivity (check and change the temperature from my ipad) but not the smart features (it uses an algorithm to change the temperature on its own.)
Yes it does.. you're not obligated to set up any of the automated or energy saving features... I control mine via the google home app and I have it in "dumb' mode where nothing happens unless I manually go in there and change it.Can someone tell me if any Nest thermostat has a "dumb" mode where it just lets a human set the temperature? The only version that is supported is the cheapest version (Nest Thermostat for $129). The more expensive Nest Learning Thermostat and Nest Thermostat E are not.Not surprised the budget Nest E isn't supported.
The top of the line Nest Learning Thermostat was last updated in 2015. It's all way overdue for an update. Google loses interest in things all the time.If the current nest thermostat came out in 2020, that would mean a newer model is probably not too far away right? Would hate to buy one now at full price only for something a little bit better to already be on the horizon
The top of the line model also has a thread radio. If they don’t update it it’s pure greed and nothing more. Finally have an excuse to ditch Nest altogether and move to something open out the box.The top of the line Nest Learning Thermostat was last updated in 2015. It's all way overdue for an update. I didn't know that there were new split products based on the learning functionality these days. At least my Es support the remote temperature sensor. The only version that is supported is the cheapest version (Nest Thermostat for $129). Wondering the same thing! 😭 the article says Nests purchased from 2020…. I’m not hopefulAnyone have any idea how to tell if your Nest is new enough to be compatible?
Mine says Display 3.7/Backplate 5.26
hahahahahaI hope the one that got installed in my house in 2016 can get HomeKit support with a software update. I think it is the learning one or something. Any chance for that?
True. I am very happy with the Nest app. It also works great with Alexa, though only limited and very specific terms will control heat or AC on, temp up or down.I have had a Nest thermostat since 2012. I think it was the original model. Still working fine. I use the Nest app without problems. I’m not I have much to gain by going through the Home app.
I agree.I decided long ago the if Google chooses to not activate Matter on the learning thermostat 3 (even though it has the thread radio) that I will rip out everything Nest in my house. I do not want the cheap toy/spy device Google put out with the Nest logo. I will remove the smoke detectors, doorbell, and Thermostats going into 2024. I hope they upgrade the Gen3 learning thermostat.

Only the cheap, new Nest Thermostats are compatible. They're the ones with the touch sensitive bezel that doesn't spin.Wondering the same thing! 😭 the article says Nests purchased from 2020…. I’m not hopeful![]()
Yeah what is the matter with people who think Matter doesn’t matter? 😁This is why Matter matters.
Well sad news… but thank you!Only the cheap, new Nest Thermostats are compatible. They're the ones with the touch sensitive bezel that doesn't spin.
Given Nest's track record, I wouldn't count on it. The Matter spec doesn't even include cameras or doorbells at this point. By the time it's added to the spec whatever you have now will be more than 6 months old, and thus beyond Google giving a crap about.I have a google battery doorbell and it works great better than some of my other stuff. I hope they do some cameras. Excited to see this, this is what’s going to make matter awesome!
