does the Netfflix look the same or has it been upgraded and looks different on new apple tv 4?

Compared to my ATV2, Netflix has changed as it now shows a screenshot and a synopsis for each episode of a series, which it didn't do before. There are several other tweaks which make it look, in my opinion, quite nice (YMMV).

i asked how it is compared to the apple tv 3 not your apple tv 2, the apple tv 2's interface has not been updated in a long time.

The New Netflix is quite different the ATV 3. It is using the New Netflix UI that it has on other platforms. I.E. My VIZIO Netflix App is the same. I believe it is that same on Roku. Some do not like it and at first on my VIZIO I did not. But I have gotten use to it and I believe in some ways I like it better. I think personal preference.

Wait so the netflix on the new APPLE TV 4 looks different than the Netflix on the apple tv 3?

What did I say in my post that was confusing? You still have access to everything but the UI is now the New Netflix UI that they put on all New Devices.

why didnt they update the UI on the apple tv 3 if its on all other "new" devices?

Apple has more control on what the UI looks like on the ATV 3 and I think limited options. I think the ATV 4 which now has an "App Store" gives more freedom to the App Developer. On a side note the ATV 2 did not get the most recent iOS 7 that is on the ATV 3. I was actually surprised to see the new CBS and NBC Apps on both the ATV 2 and ATV 3 so maybe somethings will continue to hit the older devices.

What happened to Netflix showing similar movies/shows when you click on a movie? I used that all the time.

Not a fan of the new Netflix interface either. And for me it is the one app that is very choppy, scrolling through lists hangs a lot and feels like an older apple tv (assume they will fix that though). They waste half of the screen on the detail view, prefer to click through for that so you have more navigation options while looking for things.

comparing Netflix on ATV vs Nvidia shield:
1) ATV does not have Categories row (action, Drama, Netflix original, etc)
2) Same movie on the Shield shows HD 5.1 (DD+) but on ATV it does not show 5.1

2) Same movie on the Shield shows HD 5.1 (DD+) but on ATV it does not show 5.1
DD+ on Netflix is not actually "HD". On the contrary, it streams at a lower bitrate then they used for DD (192 instead of 384kbps). The audio quality is at best equal (since DD+ has slightly better compresson efficieny). Also, the ATV4 is able to output the DD+ stream or decode it to PCM (depending on your audio settings).

As far as the UI is concerned, I agree. I like the old version a lot better.

I was talking about UI (not showing 5.1 like on the Shield), not DD or how it decode.

Both ATV and Shield have the same Netflix UI design, mostly. I am not talking about the old ATV UI>

Here is the most insanely idiotic thing about the new Netflix app :

You are not allowed to watch the end credits of movies anymore.
Truly awful isn't it. Netflix used to be a premier service for movie and tv buffs. Now it seems to be a low quality ITV wannabe for binge watching teens.

You'd have thought that seeing as there is an option not to auto play it would let you at the very least expand the credits. But no. We need to see three pointless thumbs of unrelated pap at four times the size of the film we're trying to finish.

Perhaps it's time to move on to something else.

Btw, like the new ATV but Netflix really is going downhill fast.

Netflix app feels like a port. They need to improve it a lot. Most notably, it keeps playing TV shows rather than stopping every 3 or so episodes to ask if you were still watching. I'm missing that feature
