Now is a great time to buy used blu-rays and dvds.
You can get amazing deals on complete boxsets.
I’m talking less than 1 buck per season usually.
Movies are even cheaper.
Repurpose some old tech as a media server.
Transcode all your films/tv/documentaries into h.265 and they take up very little space.
Each month take what would be your streaming budget and go and buy yourself an actual collection that YOU OWN.
Often the unedited and original versions.
I’ve been doing this the past few years now. I have a total of 84 TV shows in completion. And 340 movies.
You also get all the extras as well.
You can still watch your shows even if the Internet goes down.
And the older stuff is WAY WAY better in my humble opinion.
The more streaming services you divert your cash to, the quicker your library will grow.
Boxsets like The Wire, or The Sopranos. Or whatever YOU like and is available on the second hand market.
CEX in the UK are practically giving them away.
I could get 20 movies on DVD for the price on one month Netflix.
Or 5-10 movies on blu ray.
With NO compression.
This time will not last. Eventually these businesses will just sell them all off as a job lot.
But right now, given the incredibly weak demand for them. It’s an absolute bargain for those willing to put a tiny bit of effort in.
There isn’t a streaming service alive that rivals my own.
I know for sure, that if I could offer it to you guys and gals, you’d drop everyone else and just go with me.
I have everything you most likely want to watch. No fillers. Just pure quality.
And I stopped tomorrow, I would still have this collection for the rest of my life, and beyond.
But the best part for me personally, is that I only pay for what I WANT TO WATCH.
No-one else on the market can do that, for me, or for any of you.
