I wouldn't say "lazy", since this was obviously quite a feat to pull off. But unnecessary? I'd agree.
Yeah. Lazy from a creative standpoint, not a technical one. Laser-scanning the real street and recreating the store interiors down to the last inch from the real floor plan doesn’t add anything to the story in my opinion. It’s cinematic cosplay. Instead of asking "How can we make this scene better?" they opted for the lazy shortcut: throw money at it. Some tech guy probably said, “Hey, I’ve got this insane scanning rig, and it’ll cost a fortune, but it’ll look real and people will love it!” And the execs nodded like that was actual filmmaking or like someone would notice or even care.

What happened to Apple being so restrictive about how their products are displayed in movies? Was that just a myth?
From my understanding, Apple can only dictate how their products are depicted if they are the ones providing them. Otherwise I think production companies are free to do whatever within reason (or just slap a sticker over the logo) if they purchase their own prop devices. I could be wrong though.

You might be right. I saw some article saying that Apple didn’t like if the bad guy used an iPhone that’s why we don’t see many iPhones, but maybe that wasn’t true. Or maybe it was just because the production company didn’t want to actually buy phones

I watched the movie because I'm an iDiot

I laughed my head off at 'I think I'm having a heart attack!' only for one of the other hostages to come out with 'Hey I know the Apple Watch can check your heart rate!'

Keep shoveling that slop, Netflix!
Why would they stop? Everyone here watched it and it's in the top 10. It's very simple, the more people watch and engage in their action movies, the more they will make. You shouldn't have watched it 🤷‍♂️

Laser scanning rig??? You mean an iPhone? Building a soundstage set and using projectors outside the windows is just normal. It's what they do.

I didn’t. And never will. Humanity never changes and Netflix is the digital equivalent of the pulp fiction and true crime/romance of the newsstand ca. 1953.

Yes, movies that THEY are involved with. 🤦‍♂️
Well, everyone knew the ones on Apple TV+ have weird rules about Apple product placement, but I wasn’t referring to that. I was referring to long before Apple TV+ was a thing people would say the reason why the bad guy never had an iPhone was because Apple wouldn’t allow it. None of the articles ever explained what basis Apple had on restricting this. Some people here said it’s because of Apple supplies the iPhones to the set so they determine who gets to use them. That seems a bit weird because if I was making a multimillion dollar movie, would I really need Apple to supply a few $1000 dollar iPhones for props?

I loved the movie! It was entertaining and true to the real events. I understand why they made the whole amazing set. Apple didn’t want to be a part of it because they didn’t take responsibility of what happened in their store. The people that where held hostage and that were in the closet weren’t heard or even talked to by someone from Apple afterwards. Their security is to blame. They also show in the movie how Apple didn’t want to share their blueprints of the building.
For this budget it’s amazing what they made! Yeah the title is a bit corny but it’s the actual code word that the police used so I do understand that this became the title. I loved it, I had a nice time watching it with friends and that’s what movies are for!

iHostage? Seriously?
iHostage was a safe word picked by a police officer for people locked in a small storage room. The writers and producers thought it was a good title. They're wrong.

That only applies to paid product placement. With that, a company basically pays their products to be advertised in a movie – and because they pay money, they usually get to have a say in how their products are presented.

Don't think it will be a good film. But sounds interesting. Might skip through the film quickly sometime.

No wonder why Netflix subscriptions are getting so expensive :).
Which is why I don't have Netflix anymore. All I have is Amazon Prime Belgium, for €25/year. Busy with Citadel right now, it's quite good. But if there's nothing worth watching on there I read what is known as a....book.

I love reading to, but it’s difficult to read a good book with friends or cuddled up with a loved one, or as a family together. It’s an entirely different concept.

Yes, indeed. The wife and I often cuddle up together and watch something, on Prime, for €25 year. Quite frankly there is already enough watchable stuff on there. Why would we also need Netflix, Disney, MGM, Hulu, etc etc, who then come up with crap like this? But it's not really about the money, I could spend €100/month on streaming and not feel it, but we all still only have 24hrs in a day.
