The Netflix for iOS app was today updated to version 7.0, adding support for the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus. With the new fully optimized app, more content is visible on the screen and menu bars are shrunken down to a more appropriate size for the bigger display.

The app has also gained support for iOS 8 and it introduces full 1080p HD streaming video on the larger-screened iPhone 6 Plus, made possible because of the native 1920 x 1080 resolution of the device. 1080p streaming is not available on the iPhone 6, which has a resolution of 1334 x 750.

According to Netflix, users will just need "a good WiFi connection" to take advantage of 1080p streaming on the iPhone 6 Plus, with 1080p resolution extending to movies and Netflix original TV shows like Orange is the New Black and House of Cards.
What's New in Version 7.0
- Optimized for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus so you can see more content
- 1080p video on iPhone 6 Plus
- iOS 8 support
- Chromecast improvements
Netflix can be downloaded from the App Store for free. Monthly plans start at $7.99. [Direct Link]

Let me guess, you still can't shut of auto play of the next TV episode?

Is there is any reason why netflix doesn't stream 1080p on the iphone 6? I would like to use the 750p screen to its full potential. Pre iphone 6 screens streamed at 720p, more than their own resolution.

Go to Netflix website, be logged in, go to Your Account, Playback Settings, uncheck "Play next episode automatically".

I'm… pretty sure that works and should affect the iOS apps? I haven't watched a show outside of AppleTV or computer in so long.

I want the Netflix iOS app on my Mac. What ever happened to Netflix dumping stupid Silverlight? That never happened. It still requires it, as I found out last time someone wanted to watch Netflix on my computer. Meanwhile, the iOS app seems to just use QuickTime to play it.

Seems the iPhone 6 Plus is gaining all the best stuff... Too bad I don't want such a ridiculously big phone.

Now we just need Netflix to support 4K through Safari on the Retina iMac

Considering they do not have HEVC decoders it will never happen....at least on this generation iPhone. Actually it will probably never happen b.c you really need about an 18mpbs connection. The carriers would **** bricks if people were streaming 4k.

Nope.

Netflix does not require Silverlight on Yosemite. It might still use it if you have it installed, but otherwise it will use HTML5 (with DRM) - and it works great.

There is no such thing as 1080p and Netflix will just blame Comcast, now add new movies and TV Shows already no one is asking for more Documentaries.

Is it just certain content that can be streamed in 1080p or is it everything?

Pretty much everything filmed in digital HD or on film reels is 1080p on Netflix. So older TV series or made for tv movies might not be but almost everything else is. On Apple TV or the iOS app there is either a "HD" or "standard definition" marker next to the length when you look something up in Netflix. You need roughly a 8-10mbit connection to stream 1080p from Netflix.

It's too bad Apple couldn't manage a 1080p display on the iPhone 6.

Too much to ask to at least have the same technology as other brands.

Maybe in a few years when Apple deems necessary.

I bet they didn't fix the bug where you can watch a cellular video over air play on my Apple TV that doesn't have Internet except for internal network.
I'm in a remote location so there is NO broadband in my area. Hotspot works but I can only watch a few episodes before my 2gb is consumed.
For now I'll keep using version 4.3.1 until they kill support for it. That works with my Apple TV just fine.
