I also have a maxed 11", 1.6/4/128 and it does NOT play Netflix with HD enabled. It stutters big time if there's much movement in the scene. I don't understand how it could possibly work for you. Are you really running HD or just HD enabled?

This is how it is for me too, and I also have the ultimate Air.

Netflix HD plays back better in Safari than Chrome, but it still stutters badly during scenes with much movement. If I turn off HD, it is silky smooth.

i just watched 24 season 8 on HD netflix on firefox....with my base macbook air 1.4/64/2gb ram..and there was no stutter here...maybe that newwest flash update helped it?

No problems with my 11" Ultimate. Plays trailers from Apple in 1080 no problem as well.

24 season 8 isn't even available in HD streaming on a computer. It says on the Netflix page, "Available in HD on your TV."

Glad you are able to watch on your Air but isn't Netflix streamed using Microsoft Silverlight?

Yes, it's using Silverlight.

Same here. Trailers in 1080 play smooth for me too.

Ok I tried it again and with the movie you mentioned.

It does seem to stutter less when played in Safari vs. Chrome. In Chrome, its stutters so much its not really watchable. But in Safari, making sure I've shut down everything else, it seems to be playing well enough to watch. Even at the beginning at 4:02, as the plane is taking off it stutters as an example, but not frequently.

Just tried watching this movie on my 13"/1.86/4gb on battery power using safari and it was smooth sailing all the way to the 5 minute mark where I stopped it. CPU usage was below 50% the entire time with the exception of 4:02 where it jumped to about 52% for a split second but there were no dropped frames. It would be interesting to note CPU usage for everyone. I have a feeling silverlight only uses one core. If your video isn't smooth and your CPU usage is only going to around 50% then you've got your answer. My 52% doesnt really suggest it uses more than one core, that 2% could have very easily been system overhead and not silverlight.

Just fixed Netflix on 13" MBP

I found this thread because as I was trying to watch some netflix on a 13" MBP with a core 2 duo, it would stutter about every ten seconds and it became worse when I switched to full screen. But I found my problem when I opened activity monitor and found two process' running called "rastertobrother2140" which where maxing out the cpu. I guess they are drivers or something else related to brother printers, but as soon as I quit and deleted that, my Netflix was silky smooth.

Adjusted quality on Netflix

-Your account and Help
-WATCHING INSTANTLY ON YOUR TV OR COMPUTER
-manage video quality
-selected "Better Quality"

So its not in HD but at least I can watch it, sorta sux considering I spent
alot of cash on this computer for it only to have a 1.4 ghz processor when
silverlight requires 1.8.
Hulu and everything else plays fine.

How does your MBA 11 or 13 do streaming netflix, and what are your
brightness settings and battery times like?

My 13" handles Netflix well, but I actually prefer watching shows on an iPad2. The Silverlight plugin kicks up my CPU to around 30% and fans starts to ramp up 4-5K rpms. Temps around 75C.

Yes it's doable, but when I compare this to watching HULU or some of the other streaming sites I pay for Netflix and Silverlight are resource intensive. Which I think is funny because HULU's flash player idles my computer at 65C, 2K rpms, and 10% cpu usage. And that's normally the resource hog.

Is anyone else experiencing dropped frame issues with any flash streaming? Whenever I stream off of flash sites (novamov, etc), the video plays fine for the first 30 minutes and then the fans will spin up and so many frames will drop that the video becomes unwatchable.

Any resolution/simliar issues out there?

11inch 1.6 here.

Silverlight 5 update enables streaming of HD content of Netflix on 11" Macbook Air 2010 models. Just tried it and it stuttered for about 20-30 seconds at first but was fine after that. I think it stuttered at first because it buffers low res at first but then buffers HD after, if enabled. Anyway, I noticed it had video hardware acceleration in the preference tab, which was already enabled, and that helps a lot. Cheers! ;)

Pretty good on my ultiAir, battery life does suffer on full brightness tho so usually have it plugged in.
