I had the same problem. I got around it by setting up the "initial" profile as the kids account, and i used one of the new profiles as my (adult) account. The initial account retained all of the kids suggestions etc, but the new profile i setup for me had no history or suggestions so was as new. It's not perfect, but at least the kids retain all their previous suggestions and history and i get to start with a clean slate!

That's actually not a bad idea. And on new devices it should default to the kid-friendly option automagically. Nice one.

20 min in and this looks great. I just set the taste preferences for myself and my 2-year old. Mom will get to do her own, of course. I can't wait for Lorax to leave my recently watched, and a curious George to get out of my recommendations!

This was a savvy move for Netflix in terms of discs, too. Right now we're on the one at a time option, but with separate profiles for the two adults, we're already talking about upping to the two at a time. Netflix will be getting an extra $4 each month from our household.

only thing it needs is the ability to pw protect the profiles and it will be great.

Yep, these profiles do not mean much if we cannot password-protect them. One can simply choose a different profile and watch contents.

I asked Netflix about how to get all the My Little Pony off of my profile history. They said there is no way to, just rate movies I like and within time the viewing history should push all the pink away.

what they really need is a streaming quality profile. On my all you can eat home broadband connection I want the highest quality. On my table/phone on a 3g/4g connection I want lowest quality due to data caps....

Probably will be a close second to get the update. Effort is probably prioritized by the most ubiquitous implementations. That would place iOS development (iDevices and Apple TV) at the top of the list.

Actually, they said that the Roku would be last and updated sometime next year. As it is even without this improvement, Netflix on the Roku is behind most other platforms.

Yes. Implementation is no doubt being focused on the more popular platforms first.

Sounds like an interesting idea.

Wake me up when there is something worth watching on Netflix. I meandered on through the crazy attempt to split off and rename service and 50% price increase. When large amounts of content I had in my queue disappeared, so did I.

I'm pretty sure that for each device they will have to roll out a new client to bring the functionality. I use my TiVo, so I'm expecting a long wait for a new client. And maybe my Blu-ray player will get it first.
It works on the TiVo already, kind of. When you "link" your TiVo to your Netflix account for the first time, it asks you to enter a code on the website. Whichever profile you are currently logged in under on the website when you pull up the URL to enter the validation code is the one that will link to your personal TiVo. So you can have a separate profile (with separate queues) per TiVo box, but you can't switch between profiles on the fly. In order to switch profiles, you need to relink the TiVo to your Netflix account all over again.

Multi users showed up on my iPad last night, didn't require an update to the app so it must have been turned on server side.

Hopefully they'll do the same for Roku soon and the rumors about not getting the feature until next year aren't true.

Well we have multiple profits set up, but for some reason the "recently watched" list is only appearing on the main profile on the AppleTV.

Profiles are a joke, no password protection-kids still have access to all profiles

And I quote from a recent press release: "...Yellin described Netflix’s approach of having a separate kids area without a lock as “a well-lit cul-de-sac” that makes it easy to find kids-appropriate content without restricting access. “We don’t put up any high fences,” he said."

Here's a thought: WHY NOT LET PARENTS DECIDE WHERE AND HOW HIGH THE FENCE SHOULD BE? As a parent I find this attitude down right arrogant bordering on boorish. Does Netflix not hire anyone who is a parent to work on their software? Because anyone who is a parent gets this, stupid. I can see how if you're not a parent you would not understand, none of us did till we had children!!!! I canceled my account tonight. Profiles!!! What a joke!

I agreed with everything you said, right up until the "I'm canceling" rant anyway. This is an improvement, I expect this to improve further over time.

In the mean time, I have parental controls set up at the overall account level, and my kids can't get to into inappropriate content no matter which profile they change to. I can see how people who don't want their kids to see what they have been watching might have a problem, though that's not an issue at our house.

As I said, this seems like a step in the right direction, and I expect the controls to get more granular over time.

Seperation!

Thank you Netflix for catering to our needs. No more SpongeBob and others intruding on my Warehouse 13 and Burn Notice themed shows. Not a good combination easily fixed. *Thumbs Up*

I welcomed the change as I have several children who watch netflix. I hope they improve on it giving users more options. Maybe a simple pass code option to access content .
