I haven't watched Netflix in years. These monthly sums are way to high.
I remember when it was $7.99 for streaming (no ads) and by mail.
I had the same from Amazon here in Germany. But telling "the younger generation" about that feels like talking about phones with wires or phone booths 🙂

If you've gotten fed up with the price increases, I have good news for those considering cancelling: I've been Netflixless since 2015 and I just don't miss it. I was an OG DVD subscriber who loved the online streaming option but the quality dropped as the price went up.

I'm really loving Apple TV as my primary streamer — quality over quantity, Apple rarely misses — and on occasion, I buy a movie or TV series I want to watch. I got Disney+ on a one year deal that I couldn't pass up and I don't even use it because Apple TV shows keep me busy enough. Honourable mention: I get Crave (Canadian HBO) for free, loving The Pitt.

I used to watch Netflix for intentionally bad horror movies back when it was cheap. I can't fathom paying anything more than $8 for that today. Where does this money go? Surely not the content...

Gotta raise the prices so we pay for the sporting events they’ve been forking out cash for. Sadly watching said sporting events on Netflix is merely a method for Netflix to then bombard us with ads for Netflix content for a few hours.😕

Well we are if not already in the territory of going back to cable and possibly bundle packages again at the rate everything is going up, there is no value to pay this much for a single streaming provider unless now they can bundle it with others to justify the cost.

Is there an option for those who live by themselves to watch 4K? NOPE.
Yes. It's call the Premium plan. It's $26.99 per month.

Alternatively, you can be an add-on subscriber on another person's Premium plan and pay either $7.99 per month and see ads or pay $9.99 per month to see no ads

Pricing (US Dollar)
  • Standard with ads: $8.99 / month
  • Standard: $19.99 / month
    • Add 1 extra member for $7.99 / month with ads or $9.99 / month without ads
  • Premium: $26.99 / month
    • Add up to 2 extra members for $7.99 each / month with ads or $9.99 each / month without ads

This is absurd. $27 x 12 = $324.
You can buy a season of your favorite show for $50 on Blu-Ray.

Looking at the value most people extract from a streaming service annually, that’s a much better deal: owning 6 full seasons of your show every year and $24 left for a movie.

The best way to deal with this is still streaming switching. Subscribe to one or two each month, binge watch your list, cancel and move on to others for the next month.
Years ago I was predicting they were going to start a push to annual plans in an effort to stop this, and I'm glad to have been wrong so far.

I could still see them at some point saying "monthly is now $49.99 for 4K HDR, but if you switch to an annual plan it comes out to only $32.99!"

These people are insane. Netflix isn’t worth $10 a month with the “shovelware” content they throw on there. I have it free with my phone plan and I still almost never use it.
It’s a weird strategy by Netflix. They now they hold a big catalogue and market share, so what they are doing ins pricing out competitors. By increasing their price people would have to decide if they subscribe to Netflix or other service, so if people can only subscribe to one it will be Netflix.

Our approach remains the same: We continue offering a range of prices and plans to meet a variety of needs, and as we deliver more value to our members we are updating our prices to enable us to reinvest in quality entertainment and improve their experience by updating our prices.

Let me rephrase it for you Netflix : Our approach remains the same : We continue raising prices to make more money to then appeal to a variety of investors, and as we make more cash from our members we are enabling the perk "happiness" for our shareholders and improving their quality of life.

Criticize the quality of their content all you want. It doesn't change the fact that they have the most subscribers in the world, they were the first profitable service while generating more revenue than everyone else, and they're still the #1 streaming service out there.
"#1 streaming service out there"...#1 at highest price, number of subscribers or #1 with most award-winning quality movies? What metric are they #1?
