Though they don’t have screens on limit per account? Say you are sharing between 3 people but only paid for 2 screens at a time, one person is left out. These guys are going to nickel and dime their customers to oblivion.

No what I'm saying is if all the paying members are each using their own login as opposed to all taking turns sharing one account login surely that should be allowed.

As I understand it, this program is for people who have one account and one login and are sharing it to others who then use that login to connect to Netflix from another residence.

For example: I live in Seattle and have a Netflix account that allows four devices to connect. My Netflix account is MyNetflix@live.com. I have only two devices in my house, so I give my account information to a friend who lives in Portland and they log in on their two devices using my MyNetflix@live.com account.

Doing the above is what Netflix wants to monetize.

Given I’ve been sharing my parents Netflix from the UK with my family here in the US, I can promise Netflix they will lose a subscriber over this.

The reality is, Netflix has become quite overpriced. Good new content comes pretty irregularly and the price seems to go up constantly.

Streaming services are just going to push me back to piracy as it’s just easier.

Netflix continue to do everything they can to alienate people for paying for the service and sending them to torrent sites.
"alienate people for paying for their service" .... They aren't alienating people for paying for their service. That's what they want. People to pay for their service. What they don't want is, Mom and Dad in Florida paying for the service sharing their password to son in Wisconsin and Daughter in California. Daughter in California sharing the password to Grandson in college in North Dakota.

Bring back some better contract deals with popular shows if possible. Create some better original content. Then we can talk about raising prices. Otherwise, if prices go up again, for me personally, its bye bye Netflix.

On the other hand, I love my HBO Max subscription. Great content.

This is what I do with my parents except between the UK and US. If Netflix pulls this stunt we will just cancel. The cost to quality ratio has fallen off a cliff. We justify the cost of Netflix by having a lot of users.

Also we travel a lot, are they intending to just screw over people travellers?

They're making anti-consumer decisions as they increase prices and constantly cancel their good shows. Good idea, Netflix. I've been a constant subscriber since 2009 (and for their DVD mailing service before that), but I'm seriously reconsidering my subscription because of these moves.

What if I visit someone who doesn't have a Netflix account, and we want to watch something on his or her device? Is that now banned? What if I travel and by a new device?

I am guessing they are looking for patterns.

If I connect for 2-3 days from Los Angeles on vacation, Netflix should determine that is me using my account on vacation.

If I connect regularly over months from Portland in addition to my Seattle address on file with Netflix because I gave my account creds to a friend and they are using it at their house, Netflix would likely determine I am "account sharing".

And yes, there could be an issue for Snowbirds who spent 8 months of the year at once address in the Northeast and 4 months in the winter in Florida, but I am sure you could show Proof of Residence to Netflix and be exempted from the extra charge.

simple same IP address
There's more to this than IP address. Devices within the same household could be connected to VPNs (corporate work VPNS and personal VPNs such as ProtonVPN) and will have different IP addresses. Also people in the same household could be on mobile devices either on the same carrier or on different carriers and they too will have different IP addresses.

sounds like they may go with a phone plan type of payment/subscription plan

$XX.XX for base price and each line/user/account has an access fee and each account would probably be limited to how many devices it can access simultaneously or something.

Netflix today said that it may implement an extra payment for those who share their Netflix accounts with people outside of their households, a practice that is common with the streaming service.

netflix-account-sharing.jpg

According to Netflix, sharing accounts between households impacts its ability to "invest in great new TV and films" for its members, and so it has been exploring ways to permit users to share outside of their households by "paying a bit more."

A test launching over the next few weeks in Chile, Costa Rica, and Peru will implement these extra payments for those who provide Netflix access to those who they do not live with. Netflix customers in these countries can add two extra members to their accounts for monthly fees of 2,380 CLP in Chile, 2.99 USD in Costa Rica, and 7.9 PEN in Peru. For reference, Netflix costs $8.99 to $15.99 per month in Costa Rica.

Netflix plans to give customers on the Basic, Standard, and Premium plans an option to enable the people who they share an account with to move a profile over to a new, paid account or an extra member account, suggesting multi-household Netflix account sharing is coming to an end.

According to Netflix, it will be working to "understand the utility of these two features" in Peru, Chile, and Costa Rica before making changes in other countries. Netflix has always included wording in its terms and services that prevents account usage across multiple households, but until now, the service has ignored password sharing.

Netflix is the only streaming service that charges by streaming quality. In the United States, Netflix charges $9.99 for the Basic no-HD plan that allows for streaming on a single device, $15.49 for a Standard HD plan that allows for two people to watch at the same time, and $19.99 for a Premium plan with Ultra HD streaming and support for four simultaneous viewers.

I will cancel, been wanting to anyway. The content isn't worth it. Keep raising prices and add on fees. Buh bye.....

I hate Netflix‘ pricing structure with a vengeance (i.e. having to pay through the nose for 4K even if I never need 4 streams at the same time), but they are not „pulling a stunt“ here but rather trying to start to enforce the rules that they in principal always had – password sharing with folks outside of your household (i.e. the actual home you live in) was never allowed, but only tolerated/not prevented so far.
