Netflix can piss right off. Didn’t renew our subscription and don’t miss it. Mostly garbage and/or degenerate content anyways.

With what all these price hikes across streaming services, it costs the same with a few of them as cable service. No thanks!

Maybe maybe not. For example, if you have kids that normally live with you, but are now off at college temporarily, I’d consider the kids part of the household.
So do many states for tax purposes, btw, when determining whether someone is a state resident or not

I am late to Netflix as streaming service since I only started 2 years ago but I wish Netflix add an option to have the available shows or even items you have added on your list be sorted alphabetically... Another thing, filter by country of origin of the TV show, like Japan, South Korea, Thailand, [and to list them all not just a few] aside from genre and whether the show is animated or not or for kids or adults...

I don't know why they want to undo the multiple profile feature by forcing people to buy their own subscription... Will they ever remove the geo-restriction on their content [and will other streaming services do]? Limiting certain content pushes people to downloading content from torrent and other websites similar to pirate bay... Also, the download function is not gonna be of any use once the content is no longer part of their content library...

Streaming services may have lowered down users resorting to piracy but they have not completely eliminated piracy due to what they are currently doing...

So I get it through T-mobile and pay extra to bump up to their highest level which is 4 accounts and 4K. How would this affect the 4 people in my plan who all live in different locations?

Netflix has no way to make this happen. If they start this practice then they will piss off a lot subscribers and mass cancellations will occur!

It really doesn't matter what a household technically is, it matters what it is in legal terms. That differs per country. In The Netherlands it is quite liberal and from a legal perspective close friends count as member of a household

No they don't. You've flat out made that up.

Well, if they're off to college, are they really "kids" or adults who can purchase their own Netflix service (temporarily) while they're at college and then be part of the household again when they graduate?

I share as my daughter is away 6 months of a year and my parents spend most of the year at their own house. I do pay for 4 streams though and never been over 3, probably never over 2.

Not sure how they would apply this to my daughter as she can VPN home so her IP, as given to Netflix, will be as if she is on the LAN here. Parents are too old to be messing with a VPN though and probably not possible as they use a Netflix app on a smart TV (shudder).

Reminds me of all the changes at Sky till I cancelled. As a continuous 'diamond' customer (apparently) quite a senior level wanted to know why I was going and offered big discounts and bonus sport packages. Other than F1 I didn't watch, want or need Sky Sports. Massive savings but of no use to me. I just wanted the service I had for something like what I paid before it got silly. Not possible so I walked. It would be the same for Netflix.

As an aside the move from Sky would have left a load of recordings trapped on a Sky box, so I copied them all to Plex before the switch-off. Somehow I messed up the Westworld series and with my original recordings trapped I did my first ever torrent. Easy thing to do when you are driven to it.

Plenty options out there and always easy to kill the most expensive provider with a declining portfolio.

This is exactly what they're going after. Those are 4 different "households", so they would each need their own Netflix account.

I thought they resolved this issue by jacking up the price 15 times?
Yeah, seriously. They're probably better off raising their prices again rather than meddling with user behavior. Netflix worked hard to normalize consumer behavior with regards to video streaming (sharing accounts included...) if they tamper with that formula in a way that creates a negative feeling, they will suffer for it.

Here's a couple of solutions for Netflix:

  1. Combat the "confusion" (which I call BS marketing spin on anyway) by educating users they can share their account.
  2. Stop green-lighting trash. Then you'll have more money to make quality content for your members.
Alternatively, keep raising prices and watch people cancel and go back to piracy. Pretty simple.

I agree with Netflix, and I’m surprised they were so generous for as long as they were. It isn’t fair to people like myself who have to pay $20/mo when others share their $20/mo service was multiple people, each of which live at a separate address, and all of which should be paying $20/month like me. I know one guy who shares his account with a cousin living 20 miles away from him and a brother who lives 35 miles away. Netflix should be getting $60/mo from the three households combined rather than just $20/mo. That only makes them raise their rates higher. So don’t be a @#$&ing cheapscate, fork over the $10, $15, or $20 monthly fees for each address!
Your logic is sort of like software companies that claim they lose MILLIONS due to stolen software. They assume that everyone using illegally-obtained software would actually buy it in the first place! So Netflix is only out any revenue if those who are sharing would actually pay for it. Some might, but I would guess most would not.

But, even those that will want Netflix, it's only 2.99 for each extra person, so Netflix is still willing to lose income I guess?

Or, 3. change the Basic $10 plan to HD quality so people aren't punished with sub-HD quality and they are then limited to 1 screen. I guess many people pick the Standard (2-screen) plan because they want HD quality for their money, not 2 screens. I know I have no use for 2 simultaneous screens, but I do have 1080p (or 4K) TV's all over the house so why would I pay for sub-HD quality?

Honestly I can't believe people are complaining about this. Like I get it, it's great for the consumer to share your password with anyone and everyone, but how do people not realize that that's obviously not good business? Can you imagine if back in the day if everyone could just share their cable subscription? Or any other similar service?

Consumers are obviously taking advantage of Netflix by sharing their account and now that Netflix is looking to stop being taken advantage of everyone's response is "I'm canceling, this isn't fair!". You would imagine the mature response would be "well it was nice while it lasted, but obviously it wasn't able to last forever". I just can't believe the complaining and whining from everyone here.

I personally took advantage of password sharing and I personally don't want to see it go away, but I'm mature enough to understand that eventually Netflix needs to do this in order to survive. The biggest mistake Netflix made (to themselves) was ever allowing this to begin with, if they would've put a stop to it from the very beginning, no one in their right mind would ever think it was unfair. People are just nuts.

How about Netflix get rid of the ridiculous price tier for 4K? I'm not paying $24 AUD a month just so I can watch it off my 4K TV. Disney charges me $11.99 AUD and I get 4K if my TV and internet can handle it.

......or they could not charge me increasingly outrageous sums of money to watch mediocre content in 4K HDR.

I actually canceled my subscription on Monday.
If you don't want the prices of Netflix to keep rising then you should be in support of Netflix putting a stop to password sharing. It's the fact that everyone shares their password on why the price is getting so expensive.

Absolutely will be cancelling Netflix if they do this. They JUST raised their prices, and it was borderline ridiculous then.
Implementing something like this would prevent prices from being raised, it's because everyone is sharing their password that their price is getting so high. I personally would love for Netflix to be cheaper with no way to password share. Rather than continuing to pay high prices to make up for all people who are too cheap to get their own account.
