So, Netflix released an update for the iPhone 5's 16:9 screen today. Great! But only some programmes/tv shows actually show as 16:9. I watched a couple of movies, (Transformers and Iron Man), both showed black bars top and bottom.

Tried some tv shows (The Office) and that worked in full 16:9. What gives, Netflix?

Many movies, especially large theatrical blockbusters are filmed in various aspect ratios that are wider than 16:9

I'd assume, based on the titles you mentioned that they are 2.35:1 and will always show letter boxing, when properly presented on a widescreen TV or other 16:9 device.

Yep, those movies weren't 16:9. Surprised many people aren't already aware of this since the same issue crops up on TVs as you mention.

Whats the monthly fee on it?

$7.99/month.

Fun Fact: Depending on how you misspell Netflix.com, you may be taken to Blockbuster.com.

Reminds me of when MCI got the phone number 1-800-Operater, assuming a lot of people would misspell operator when trying to make a call with AT&T. Pure genius!

Regards,
Tom

Didn't know that, thanks very much!

I pay £5.99 in the UK.
