Dark futures are ahead, people. They're starting with small AI nuggets here and there. Just wait until it decimates every single industry in the world and humans are left to fight for food, basic needs and eventually existence.

No, AI is not like any kind of past human advancement. When the paint brush was invented it did not paint a million paintings in every style on its own with a simple prompt instantly. When a telephone was invented it did not call itself and speak on behalf of people with reasoning in every language known to man. When the internet was invented it didn't take every idea, business concept, photograph, video or piece of content that was ever made by a human and hallucinate it's own.

Right now it's going to help Netflix shovel more content to you based on your search history and other data Netflix mines about you from its partners. In the future it will be used to replace every job in the entertainment industry and whatever one you work in.

Folks, you may want to stop paying this company...

"The quotes are really telling. Films or stories that are majority generated by AI cannot be copyrighted, so they're looking to kill off jobs in all the other areas, such as "set references, pre-vis, VFX sequence prep, shot planning" and so on. They keep the copyright but none of the humans."

For $25/mo (for the privilege of see all your 4K tv can display) it better be the best.
If you don't have a 4K setup, you can get away with $18/mo for ad-free, or $8/mo for ad-supported.

Whenever I get to Netflix (I rotate my streaming services so I have one at a time), I'll be sure to try out the new Monument Valley 3 as part of Netflix games (like their version of Apple Arcade).

I’m starting to wish for a more modular subscription service model. I don’t need this feature, I don’t need Netflix games, but I’m willing to pay for 4K.

all of these AI 'suggestions', Personalized ads, etc are killing our sense of serendipity and thoughtful choice. I don't want/need someone/thing to constantly 'tell me' (suggest) what to watch or buy.

For example, if I buy Tide as 'my brand', having more Tide ads shoved into every screen I own isnt helping me (let alone endearing me to the brand), if anything it makes the buyer resentful. Same for content, I know what I like stylistically, but if Netflix keeps ONLY showing me similar (yet often inferior) shows, I just get annoyed, and lose interest in using that platform. I wish for a day when Netflix would just let the complete catalog be listed. (case in point, going to a friend's house and seeing a lot of content that never surfaces on your acct)

Give the viewer a chance to 'discover' something new instead of being limited to things they already are aware of. Wake up! "Its People!"

Ok. So how about instead of wasting money on all this, let's not cancel shows the day they come out and finish some stories. And, I don't know, put a slight degree of effort into marketing those shows. Because this can be a great add-on to the site, but if your library is of unfinished tales, what's the point?

I doubt an AI algorithm will be able to predict the kind of shows that I want to see. I’ll stick with doing my research and going on IMDb and asking friends who know my personality whether I would like something or not. Hard pass.

Nothing Netflix is doing is about creativity or great content ... It's a money mill powered by data.

Anything and everything that makes their metrics and numbers "go up" is what they do, all other concerns be damned.

Don't give this company money if you care about great TV or Movies

After recently seeing what's on there at someones house:

I'm blown away anyone is paying for, let alone watching, the catalog of hot garbage time wasting "content".

Years ago I read someone's description of Netflix as being "the place where you spend more time looking for something to watch than actually watching". I am not convinced that has changed, though the cost certainly has. Shoehorning in AI won't change that.

still going to take a million years to put in a query via the dreaded remote

And that's after Netflix has raised prices (again.)

Clearly Netflix needs to raise prices more.
with a recession on the cards, how many people will cancel their Netflix? What happens if it is very deep or even a depression? Features like this makes me even less likely to want to sign up for Netflix or Sky or [insert streaming service here].
Hunker down people. Make those iPhones last another year etc etc.

We definitely won’t cancel Netflix. I look forward to trying it out.

Ditched Netflix a few months ago. We were not watching it much and they just keep raising prices. Add to that Disney Plus raising prices and Palystation Plus in Australia and I cannot justify continually forking out money for average content for greedy companies.

Maybe do the simple things well first. Like not filling the recommendations with every movie I've already seen and liked or disliked.

Exactly. I never rate anything on any streaming service.

How will they know our moods without a camera and actual bio metrics?
I hope it does, I can’t wait for them corpus to get in our head, direct advertisement is gonna be good.

I remember back in the old days when Tower Records was a thing, and you could go in there and look through DVD discs of different movies, and if you were looking for something specific or a mood, you could get excellent recommendations from the people who worked there. As much as I love technology, and I do, I seriously doubt this is gonna be useful.

Not sure whether this will help and the suggestions might not improve. Expecting to see a worldwide rollout in the coming months.

Even if they make the "AI" "understand" something (slim chance of that), I'm sure the marketing department will override it.

For example, I only watch standalone movies. No time for series that could be condensed in decent 1 hour movies *per season*.

You'd think Netflix would understand that and stop recommending me series, since I never click on them. But no, they insist. Even when they kinda get a movie niche that I like right, 50% of their recommendations are still series.
