Anyway possible to get this app at all other than jailbreaking? Don't know how I missed it....

I was just thinking about the battery issues. Perhaps that along with the contract terms is the real reason that it was removed from the store.

TEG

That said, I wish it'd turn off the screen. I've had to disable auto-lock for it, and with WiFi+3G+screen, the battery dies after a couple of hours (even when plugged in, it's using more than it gets through the plug). I've set the brightness down to 0, but it doesn't make much of a difference.

I used Netshare yesterday with my laptop. But after a little while my iPhone was drained even while charging. I thought this is crazy to have to leave the screen on the whole time. Well today I decided to try again. But this time I hit the lock button on the phone. Well I still could use the internet on my laptop. I have used it for about 6 hours today. I am typing this post while still using it.

I don't know why everyone has been saying that the phone screen has to be on. I can't be the first person to discover this. Or maybe mine's just a fluke. Someone else try this and see if it works for them.

1. It did work for me the one or 2 times I tried it.
2. If you have At&t I would seriously advise against it. You're going to go wait over your cap and get BURNED! 6 hours is a little bit excessive

I've only used about 50mb today. I think there's a 5gb limit on our "unlimited" iPhone data plans. I've just been surfing the internet, not downloading anything major. I don't have 3g here, so there's only so fast you can go. Where I'm at is having issues with the cable internet, hopefully it will be fixed in a few days.

I tethered with other phones plenty of times and AT&T has never charged me extra. As long as your not doing bit torrent, I don't think they'll care.

You don't need NetShare to tether you iPhone. All you need to do is jailbreak, download 3Proxy and Terminal from Cydia, set up a proxy in your browser and your done. All NetShare does is put a GUI on that process (3Proxy and running "socks" in the Terminal app) for people that don't jailbreak.

It works extremely well, but, like with NetShare, you have to set up a proxy with each app that accesses the web, and some, like iTunes, won't let you.

If you need help setting up a socks proxy, there's many guides online, or you can pm me.
