Hello,

The company I work for provides PC's to all employees. In addition they have work stations wired into the network (some shared and some personal) On top of that we have whats called a "share drive". In this drive, everyone has a folder and the contents can be accessed from any computer but they can be accessed by anyone so we do not store sensitive stuff inside them.

I brought my mac to work, connected it to the network and noticed in the finder that I could now see both drives and computers that I could not normally see from one of the shared PCs or my personal. I could see both computers wired into the network as well as entire drives filled with data. At first, I thought it was an addition to the shared network but because I can only see it on my mac, I'm guessing thats not the case. Some of the computer links clicked say, "offline" but some of the stuff was fully accesible.

I opened some files and I guess now I am afraid that network administrators are gone track my computer and see that i gained access to this stuff. I guess I am afraid I will get in trouble. Can any of you networking folks shed some light on this?

If a network administrator gives you any trouble then they should have done a better job of securing their network! I doubt it will be logged...

I agree they should have. The stuff I saw is a hidden shareable drive but only be syelct people. Is it odd that I was able to see it on my Mac?

That should tell you your Network Administrators are really not that good. All shares on a Network should be help on NAS and have VLANS setup in your work network. Plus if your simple Mac can see this then any Linux hacker would be able to do the same.
