Network question

So I bought my parents a macbook 2 years ago. They are learning....slowly. There are times when I give them step by step instructions on how to do something, but they can't. I've sent them step by step videos....no luck. I would like to fix their problems myself. Here's the question: Can I set up a network between my Mac and theirs? I've done it several times IN MY HOUSE between my desktop and laptop. I live in Maryland, my parents live in Jersey. Is it possible to network them over this distance? Thanks.

If you can get them onto iChat, you can use iChat screen sharing. That's worked well for me in similar situations and doesn't require any special router setup.

I use Teamviewer's free product for my Mom's eMac (yes, you read that right)
