This should be simple enough and I'm probably overlooking something.

Ext HDD plugged into a Mac Mini 10.7 Server, Shared with everyone.
an iMac (10.7), Macbook (10.6) and a Windows 7 Desktop.

I have the shared disk showing up everywhere correctly but what happens is that when I copy a file from my windows pc to the shared volume I can't open it on my iMac, or Macbook. I can however open it just fine on the server.

I get a permissions error only when something is copied from the windows machine. files I drop between macs can be opened fine and even on the windows desktop.

Thought Ideas suggestions any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance

Copy the file from the PC to the network share then back down to an OS X machine. Do a "Get Info" on the file and tell us what the permissions are. Check that you do not have "Ignore Permissions" checked on the "Get Info" window of the external HDD as well.

So when I checked ignore permissions it actually worked. (I know you said not checked... but it works....)

    Thanks!

Weird. Cool that it is working. Must be the "Everyone" share that get's weird with Windows. I run OS X Server all over the place and don't have permissions issues like that but do not have anything with everyone read and write access in POSIX permissions. You are sharing through server admin are you not? Watch that volume closely though as "ignoring permissions" can create other access problems.
