I have had my Apple TV 4K running on my Wi-Fi network for almost 2 yeas. Today I ran a Cat-6 cable to it. I plugged it in. I navigated to Settings/Network.

It automatically pulled an IP from DHCP.

OK - but it tests to be running on the Wi-Fi network. And the Wi-Fi connection still is active in the router.

So, How do I turn off the Wireless in the Apple TV? When I go to Network now, it only shows Ethernet.

My thinking is that I must turn off Wi-Fi to make it pull data across the much faster wired network.

Don't know what "tests to be running on the Wi-Fi network" or "Wi-Fi connection still is active in the router" means.

Routers will sometimes keep a wifi address in their tables even though it is not active. Does your router tell you what kind of connection it is? Can you ping the WiFi address?

My experience has been that the WiFi options disappear when the Apple TV senses an ethernet connection.

If you temporarily turn off wifi on your router, what happens? Does the Apple TV still work? What kind of connection does your router show?

Both, wired at .160 and the wirelesss at .158 are still responding. So, yes both connections are still active.

Yes, with the LAN cable plugged into the Apple TV, any option to wi-fi settings disappear.

If I flush the ARP Table in the router, reboot it, both of those IP addresses are back and both still responding.

I guess, at this point, I will unplug the LAN, revert back to Wi-Fi, change the the password for wi-fi in the Apple TV so that it can't connect. Plug back the LAN. That would do it, but it is a so much less elegant way to do this.

BTW - I am CCNP and NET+....IT Manager for a large company. I know many ways to accomplish this, but I should not have to ----- there should be an option in the Apple TV.

have you rebooted the aTV?

mine has my wifi password, but is connected to wired
I've never seen it on the wifi, unless I pull the ethernet cable. then it will automatically join the wireless.

Yep. Rebooted the Apple 2 or 3 times.

I am believing there is no answer other than the one I suggested. Put in an incorrect password sot that it can't joint the wi-fi network......force it to use the wired.

The wifi and Ethernet connections will both be active but the Apple tv will use the Ethernet connection by default.

That's not what I am seeing. My WiFi connection goes away when ethernet is connected.

I can only see one IP address in the Apple tv settings when connected to Ethernet or wifi but can see that the Apple tv has two IP addresses in my router client list.

I don't usually use Ethernet unless I am watching content through my VPN which means that Ethernet must be active and wifi is not; therefore, I am incorrect in asserting that both can be active at the same time.

You can go into network settings on the ATV while on wifi, and click on your wifi network, and select forget this network.
