Why would not i explore my own country? Well its better to do the hard and long holidays while you are still young. I can do my own country when i retire or bit earlier.

When i said unknown destinations i meant discovering new, unpredicted and unexpected destinations. What's the point flying to Hawaii or other commonly known destination knowing what you will see and experience from the trip ?

Holiday trips are about surprises, fun, thrill, excitment, education and fun.

Nothing is more exciting than landing in a mysterious foreign land regardless of the risk.

There can be mysterious and foreign four hours to the West. Even though we all soak English in the USA, the dialects can be so different that it may as well be another language. Holiday trips are great if you have enough holiday time.

Don't wait until you're older. It might not happen.

I bet that toy shop was called Hamleys.

So how do you visit Alaska rather than Hawaii and when are you going?

Took a cruise to Alaska. Don't know why I keep missing Hawaii. One day.

Book it Dano!

This is such a silly conversation. The US is divided into 50 self-governing regions in an area larger than Europe. To go to "Other countries", I have to cross and ocean and it's damn expensive.

And I have been overseas multiple times. It's expensive enough to travel domestic in the US, let alone internationally.

Hey, you mentioned Mexico but you forgot Germany... how can you skip Fredricksburg, which is incidentally close to the Enchanted Rock, one of the biggest granite mountains in the world and the place where Robert E. Howard created Conan the Barbarian? At any rate, if we want to taste some France, we can also drive a few hours and go to New Orleans, and enjoy it in its full mysterious beauty (and unique smell...).

I absolutely love central Texas BBQ, which takes its inspiration in no small part from the number of German immigrants in the area - New Braunfels, Pflugerville, so many others.

And anyone who's never visited the wonderful Czech bakeries and sausage shops in West, Texas (the city, not the direction!) is definitely missing out.

Going back to part of the point of this thread - yes, Texas borders Mexico itself, but for me that's a 7-1/2 hour drive. I've made the drive before, but it can be brutal, especially when the two hour trip from San Antonio to Laredo is really nothing but tumbleweeds and mesquite trees.

Just because your country is so big and beautiful doesn't mean everywhere is the same.
Travelling makes you smarter, wiser and opens your mind to the other side of the world. But of course everyone to their own , we all see things from different corner with diffrent thoughts.

But i can understand if cost is an issue.

Is it true most Americans have never travelled outside of USA before?

If you or someone you know never have been outside of US, your state or city please tell us why. Thanks in advance.
I live in a border state and have been to Canada a number of times. I've been to slightly over half of the states in the US.

Why haven't I traveled outside of North America? Travel is expensive.

The U.S. Marine Corps took me to places like South Korea, Japan, Australia and Mexico. I've also been to Canada on my own since it's literally about a 45 minute drive from my home.

Visiting the Far East and Down Under was amazing and I'd love the opportunity to go back again. Meeting people of a different culture than I am used to and sampling their foods and ways of life was very interesting and I have such fond memories of it all.

If anyone has a chance to leave their home country to visit someplace else abroad, go for it. You're likely not going to regret it.

Domestic flights are pretty reasonably priced.
Flights to PEK are in the $1200 to $1500 range.

But even truly expensive flights are negated when one has an awesome Chase Sapphire Card.

If he only bought a ticket for himself, I'm sure his wife would have his balls in a glass jar by lunchtime.

Are we honestly not going to consider the possibility that Americans are just intrinsically terrible no-travelies! They also smell bad!

The world is a awfully big place to ignore all but what you can see..

I've got Iceland and Ireland for early next summer and hopefully back to Finland in the fall.

I'd like to get a week or two in Russia this rotation too I want to see Siberia but that will have to be a by myself trip
