Did the dance like I do every year. The phone itself is running out of wow factor life changing upgrades. I don't think I have ever been less excited to get the latest and greatest. It pretty much is a 14 PM with a new case and new customizable side button.

But besides the actual hardware which of course has a better camera, battery, yadayadayada - the entire experience is not the same. Pre-pre order was a breeze. Pre order was a breeze and pickup today when they opened at 8 was just like any other day in the apple store. There was a line for people buying in real time which used to be unheard of or the store had like 10 phones a day to sell a la cart. Nope, they had plenty of stock. I remember getting up at 3AM EST just to pre-order hoping I could do it quick enough to get a launch day pick up or delivery. Made you feel like you cracked ticketmaster for face value Swift tickets. Now the entire process is so uneventful and easy.

Got my new Black 15 PM and there is nothing about it that makes me feel like I just got a new phone.

EDIT: Well the Mulberry Linen case definitely exceeded my expectations!! Maybe I am not going to miss leather as much as I thought.

It's funny, I still do yearly upgrades as well just kinda because... well... it's habit I guess. I don't need to. It is fun, but the year on year changes are so much smaller than they were a decade ago.

Then stop upgrading every year. There's no need if you don't care anymore. Just wait until you actually need to.
Honestly, there is no impactful differences between the 15 PM and the 11 PM, even if I waited 4 years.. But you missed my point, there is no demand anymore, that is why it is uneventful and anticlimactic. All driven by the lackluster improvements in technology. It is what it is.

Upgraded from 13PM to 15PM. Just got the phone, I'm really happy with how light it is.
It is lighter for sure and one surprising thing, it fits in the charging tray of my BMW with the case on. None of the prior Max's did.

Well you got it for a few days for evaluation, now's the time to see if there is anything that makes you want to keep it over your previous model. As you know these latest iPhones are at a point where the feature set is really attractive only to specific users, and in a year will be superseded again. The 14 brought emergency satellite SOS texting. If you think about everything you had with the previous 14PM model, versus this newer 15PM model its your call whether this FOMO in this instance is worth it. ;)

I disagree. I usually sell my old phones to friends or family for trade in value - it pays off the balance and I upgrade.

This year, I actually sold my phone last week so for the past 7 days I’ve been using a 2020 iPhone SE. Not only does it remind me how much I love that form factor, which is a story in itself, but it makes going back to the PM feel newer. If you’re only ever going from the latest to the latest, you’ll never feel the difference. That’s on you, not apple.

Technology can only advance so far and apple certainly won’t be screwing over their own business model when the industry standard is to release marginal upgrades on a yearly basis.

Do you upgrade to the new model of your car every year?

Yeah, I know. I am not bashing here, just more stating the obvious. I miss the days of feeling like I just scored something everyone wants and it is hard to get. I miss what that phone offered over my last one as well.

No FOMO here, I collect toys and want to have the latest, not returning. It's what I do. No returns.

Despite no major improvements, current phone has updated features differentiating from previous one which makes it a step ahead of the previous one. I like to get the latest iPhone version so no big deal concerning whether its updates are incremental or major.

Nah, I always have to have the newest phone. Toys you know, just wish it felt like it used to.
The “anticlimactic” feeling you have is then a response of your own misguided expectations that run contrary to the current state of mobile phones, or at least the way Apple has been for the last few years minimum. The year to year upgrades are known and expected to be fairly minor except for those coming from a few generations ago.

Even the Fold line, excitement from the first one and then to the Fold 2, now they’re minor upgrades for now and everyone knows that

I think nowadays with how many people have phones, pretty much no one except maybe high school students care about what phone someone has - regardless of how “hard to get” it is.

I'm always jazzed every year upgrading. In the beginning year to year it was pretty big improvements. As we are what 16 years into this? There is only so much you can do year after year.

I'm easy to please and look forward to iPhone season every year. The excitement around it has never dulled for me

Do you upgrade to the new model of your car every year?
Relatively speaking, yes I do. But with cars it is more like a 3-4 year life cycle. For example, new 5 series hits the dealer. I get it. 3-4 years later, they refresh it (LCI), I trade up. 3-4 years later the new style is out.

So yes, I do.

I work in a phone store and I usually sell my current iPhone for around ($900) and get the new one for $1100 or $1200 so a $300 investment for something I'm going to use every single day is not bad imo that's less than $1 a day....you don't need to upgrade every year if you're actually shelling the whole $1000+ because the changes aren't too significant.

Same - it really is no big deal, I'm more reminiscing than crying in my soup.
