I picked up a new 11" 256GB today, but it has a few issues. Last week I bought the 11" 128 from the Apple Store, but exchanged it because I thought for the extra $100 the 13" was a better offer. I really didn't like the form factor so I brought it back for this 11" 256GB.
But, it has 2 issues. 1st, the LCD is really washed out, but also at 1/2 brightness the screen is extremely dim. To try and fix the washed out color problem, I downloaded a custom color profile for this LG screen. That seemed to fix the color, however it's just not as bright as the last 2 Air's I had.
The 2nd issue is also with the LCD. Between your bezel, and the actual LCD, there is about 1-2mm of black. Everyone has it, on every laptop. The problem with this one though is that on one side, it's 2mm, and the other it's 1mm. So the end result is that the screen is "slightly" crooked. And it's annoying.

The 11" 128 I bought originally had a perfect LCD, color's & bezel. Same with the 13. To some these might seem like small issues, however after the $1200 I spent, I just want a good screen.

So my question is this, will Apple give me a hard time if I ask for another 11" 256. It's not like I'm looking to exchange again, I just want a decent good LCD.
Once you notice the LCD being slightly crooked, it's like you see it ALL the time.

If you got it from an Apple store you can exchange till you are satisfied. They are typically easy going. I know what you mean about the screen being off centered. I've seen that and it would annoy me as well. Swap it till you are satisfied. As you said for 1200 it needs to be perfect.

Thanks to you I just noticed my screen is off centre by 0.5-1.0mm on one side. Are you guys saying that there are 11" MacBooks Airs out there with a perfectly centred screen?

If it's installed by a human and not centred by the bezel itself I find it hard to believe that you'll get one that's 100% perfect.

A few of my friends have the 11" and their LCD you couldn't make it more centred, so yes it's possible, and it should be with the amount of money you spend. It's not that difficult, but I don't really think the people on the assembly line care that much... given the pay rate.

So I took mine to the Apple store here in Haarlem in NL, and they are going to replace my clamshell, so I'll get a whole new screen assembly.

Ideally I would prefer a complete replacement but they only offer that in the country you purchased the machine.
