Not that I’m expecting any, but before my return window is closed, what are the common defects that new IPP owners should look for in case they’re new IPP needs to be returned?

Just off the top of my head, you may want to check for bends if you've had it in a backpack or something, and check the corners where the screen meets the bezel for any imperfections.

I always check for dust as well - have only had one Apple device ever come out of the package with dust under the screen, but its not unheard of.

For the price of these new iPads, I don't blame you for checking them over.

I returned one due to the display making a clicking / creaking sound when the screen was pressed in one corner.

I returned mine yesterday for exactly the same reason. I didn’t recognize it the first 2-3 days but it got on my nerves really fast. It happened when I held my iPad in portrait mode with my left hand (relatively firm) and right hand (less firm) and tapped with my fingertips on the right lower backside, screen turned upside.

Check for backlight bleed. I returned 3 units with this. If you flip the pad in landscape with the camera being on the top left, I found that the bottom left corner exhibited significantly more bleed than the rest. This made the display not look to uniform when I was watching things on Netflix or YouTube. I’d turn off the lights, setting the brightness to max helps fish it out too.

Always get Apple care. The last two 12.9 gen iPads have both been replaced well after the 1 year warranty for issues.

I think I’ve maybe got something similar happening. The left side of the keyboard in portrait mode sounds so much more hollow and “disconnected when tapping than the right side.” It’s almost like there’s space between some layers in a tint area. It’s super subtle but very annoying.

The most common issues in my experience are dead pixels, dust under the glass, and other screen anomalies. Clicking of the screen’s glass in certain points has also been an issue in the past. Oddly enough, I have never had any issues with buttons, cameras, ports, speakers, etc. It’s always the damn screen.

Mine has been great, except for the fact that I realized I should have gotten a 512GB (instead of 256) after all and i’m at like three weeks so I cant return it. Kind of bummed about that but other than that its become my go to device.
