It’s like an old pair of jeans that you have to squeeze in and the zipper may pop out anytime. Then why a new model that has no new features?

Exact same can be said about the AirTags not including a loop hole - something 90% of users are likely going to need (for keyrings). Instead they'll sell a whole other accessory, packaged in plastic (especially if third party) and shipped separately. Very environmental! But we're environmentally friendly. Meanwhile creates e-waste with a 1 year old $300+ product that can't be re-used.
If this was a cheap well under $100 basic form-fitting case, ok sucks but ok. The dimensions are slightly different. But this thing was already WAY overpriced.
And they could have left a bit extra space (talking 1-2mm) in the thickness when closing up. There was nothing preventing that like a traditional case that wraps around.
This is intentional obsolescence. Regardless what Apple fanboy sites want to say claiming "There’s no conspiracy to make you buy a new keyboard." Rigghhhhtttt
Probably. So the 11” MKB 2021 won’t be compatible with iPP 11 2022 if it comes with mini led too?
The brand new 12.9-inch iPad Pro will not be compatible with the older generation Magic Keyboard due to a marginal increase in device thickness, according to iGeneration.

Yeah, I’ve considered that if the YouTube tech reviewers come out and show the M1 iPad Pro functions perfectly well with the 2020 Magic Keyboard, I may go against my better judgement and buy the M1 iPad Pro, although I just can’t think of any good reasons why it makes sense vs my 2018 12.9. I predominantly use Notability, surf the web, email, and use Microsoft Office apps occasionally. I don’t need the horsepower of the M1. I am thinking of upgrading my 2017 MacBook Pro to the base M1 MacBook Air tho.I love the folks abandoning their 1200 dollar iPad Pro after 1 year saying incompatibility with a 300 dollar accessory will stop them from upgrading to the latest 1300 dollar iPad Pro.
Maybe wherever you send the 2020 iPad Pro off to live, send the magic keyboard with it too. Then refresh both. I know whoever is using the “old” 2020 iPad Pro will appreciate the keyboard too... or be like me. I don’t travel with the magic keyboard; it sits next to the desktop monitors. So wouldn‘t ever close on the newest iPad Pro.
There’s a difference between Apple officially supporting something and whether it will work. It’s quite likely the old keyboards are not officially supported because of the 0.5mm difference or added magnets or whatever, but it should still *work* and close properly based on testing people have done with existing Magic Keyboards. That’s not the case. Both Apple Insider and The Verge claim they have other sources confirming this. If Apple wanted to they could put to rest any confusion by going on record as to whether the current keyboard is compatible or not.
Well to be fair, those with 2018 or 2020 iPad Pro 12.9 can get $535-$580 on trade towards the purchase of a new 12.9 iPad Pro. I am looking at the 256GB WiFi only model since I am either at home or on campus studying (don’t need 5G). That’s $1099-$535 for me so having to spend an additional $350 for another Magic Keyboard is ludicrous And significantly changes the economics of the purchase. The question is does the 12.9 M1 iPad Pro really not work with the older Magic Keyboard because if it does after all, then I suspect many 2018/2020 iPad Pro 12.9 users will be upgrading who otherwise would not because they are likely in a similar boat as me when it comes to the economics.I love the folks abandoning their 1200 dollar iPad Pro after 1 year saying incompatibility with a 300 dollar accessory will stop them from upgrading to the latest 1300 dollar iPad Pro.

The 2020 MK works with the 2018 iPad Pro so it’s not abandoning their iPad after 1 year.I love the folks abandoning their 1200 dollar iPad Pro after 1 year saying incompatibility with a 300 dollar accessory will stop them from upgrading to the latest 1300 dollar iPad Pro.

Which is why Apple should clear up the confusion. There’s a difference between Apple officially supporting something and whether it will work. Apple’s website says I can trade in my 2018 iPad Pro and get $535 the new Pro. IF the 2020 MK really doesn’t work Apple should allow it to be included in the trade in If they quoted me $635 for my 2018 Pro + MK I would probably upgrade. If they don’t offer anything then Apple just lost a $1100 iPad sale.Well to be fair, those with 2018 or 2020 iPad Pro 12.9 can get $535-$580 on trade towards the purchase of a new 12.9 iPad Pro. Apple thinks this way because they know that while many consumers will complain and insist they’re not going to buy a new product, they will still buy it. There are legions of Apple devotees that gladly pay whatever prices Apple thinks up and they’ll defend Apple all along the way. So yeah, consumers are stupid.Apple thinks customers are ****ing stupid, with all that pricing and all. And now the whole "pay $400 extra every time you upgrade to buy the same exact keyboard all over again"
And maybe there's a segment of people like me who believe the market should dictate prices. If a business invests time and money into releasing a product then I see nothing wrong with them trying to get the highest price possible for it.Apple thinks this way because they know that while many consumers will complain and insist they’re not going to buy a new product, they will still buy it. Sour grapes. And maybe there's a segment of people like me who believe the market should dictate prices. If a business invests time and money into releasing a product then I see nothing wrong with them trying to get the highest price possible for it.
Almost every Apple purchase I have made (ex. iPhone 7 Plus, MBP 13 inch, Homepod, etc.) was at a sale/deal price or after the product price dropped after it had been released for a significant period of time. There were plenty of other consumers who were willing to pay regular price for the item and I don't begrudge them that and certainly don't view them as "sheep" or stupid consumers. They simply valued the items at a price higher than I did. And we are not talking about necessities of life here. You can get something comparable that will do what you want at a lower price (whether it is a used product or competing brand).
The only reason I bring this up is the alarming attitude of entitlement and hidden envy and resentment that is beginning to permeate this forum. You've got users and even moderators going into a thread like the one for the Hermes leather keychain (for Air Tags) making veiled comments insinuating those people had wasted money and were being ripped off like fools. You got other users critcisizing Apple for the simple fact they chose to offer the Hermes tag as an option to buy in their online store.
It would seem nowadays, if people don't get a product for the price they deem it is worth and with the features they deem it should have then it is a rip-off. Anyone who doesn't seem to agree with their assessment get classified as fools or sheep.
I found a 3rd party folio on Amazon that’s supposedly compatible with the 5th gen iPad Pro 12.9. At least that’s what the product description says. It’s essentially a copy of Apple’s Smart Folio for the iPad. So I ordered it, it’s a lot cheaper than Apple’s, figuring that at least I would have one useable case for the 5th gen until I decided how much money I wanted to spend on a case/keyboard.There’s a difference between Apple officially supporting something and whether it will work. It’s quite likely the old keyboards are not officially supported because of the 0.5mm difference or added magnets or whatever, but it should still *work* and close properly based on testing people have done with existing Magic Keyboards.
It is compatible, they've already said that at the event.Next announcement…the new Apple TV remote isn’t backwards compatible with previous Apple TVs
I have an old remote that I used years ago on an old iMac and it actually still works on the current Apple TV. Of course Apple would probably say it’s not compatible! It is compatible, they've already said that at the event.
The way our AppleFeature-gate tech culture is, unless it offers 100% of the features Apple will get flack for saying it is compatible. Same thing applies to the MK.I have an old remote that I used years ago on an old iMac and it actually still works on the current Apple TV. Of course Apple would probably say it’s not compatible!
Entitlement? Envy? Resentment? I guess maybe with some people. And maybe there's a segment of people like me who believe the market should dictate prices. If a business invests time and money into releasing a product then I see nothing wrong with them trying to get the highest price possible for it.

They’re trying to cover their butts..uh “sources”. They know .5mm will be insignificant. Many here use a screen cover as thick or thicker with no fit issues. I stuck a wad of printer paper about 2mm in thickness and there was a gap but less than 2, no gap, it closed securely. My guess is that only people who use a screen cover will have to be careful.Apple says old Magic Keyboard is ‘functionally compatible’ with new 12.9-inch iPad Pro, but warns of imperfect fit
