I assume that since the design hasnt changed that the hdd and ram are user replaceable. Anyone know?

Also, is the difference between the i5 and i7 worth it?

Yeah it's user replaceable.

And the difference is noticeable as I replaced my early 2011 i5 with the october 2011 i7
 
The difference in speed between the i5 and i7 is less than 10%...

Noticing a difference is probably due to Wishful Thinking Syndrome after dropping $300 on a minimal CPU upgrade.
