Yo it's not a real new MacBook Pro.. it's just different specs options... If this is a new MacBook Pro, well the MacBook Air M3 with 16gb of ram is a new MacBook Air too (the model released at the same time as the m4 mbp)...

Same like for AirPods Pro 2 usb-c... it's a revision, not new AirPods...
This exists for the better screen, more battery and active cooling over the Air. If I'm being honest even the M1 Pro I'm on right now is overkill for what I do with it and the M5 matches it in multicore and GPU performance, so I'm looking forward to the M6 Macbook Pro with OLED, assuming they don't leave the non-Pro Pro with the current design and limit the new OLED design to the M6 Pro and Max.

Yeah I bet this is their way of comping for tariffs without it showing. And it’s “middle finger to the EU” of course since we’re not talking about a random phone charger thing but a high power brick to charge a laptop battery the size of several phones.
It’s a douchy move tbh
My god man ,they're required to remove the charger in EU by law. Look it up. EU banned chargers in phone and laptop boxes.

I hope they really are 2X the speed.

If they are going to royally screw everyone on upgrade pricing, at least make them really great upgrades with speeds to match!
I’m assuming they moved to the same storage subsystem that the M4 Pro/M4 Max run on whether it’s PCIe 4 or 5 really isn’t that important. Instrumented tests are what I’m waiting for.

On the flip side, waiting until the full redesign and presumably M6 to move us to Wi-Fi 7 and BT 6.0 has actually pissed me off. There is an argument that could be made that the M4 should’ve gotten those upgrades, but here we are at M5 while Apple makes us wait for a full chassis upgrade and OLED (which I don’t want due to the eye strain it causes me) to move up the networking stack.

I’m 50/50 on 32GB being the top DRAM config. More choice is better, but who would equip an M5 with 48GB and not want an M5 Pro or M5 Max.

I compare to m4 !!

I did a big upgrade to my M4 - kinda maxed it out. I honestly can't think of any feature that would be compelling enough to upgrade for a long time. AI certainly isn't it (especially in it's current form). Screen isn't a thing because 90% of the time, I work on an external monitor.

Apple's in a bit of a pickle - the hardware is so good now that the lifespan is much longer.

The M5 gen will target the lingering holdouts on Intel. M6 with the redesign/OLED will be to get the M1/M2 people to jump forward.

MR: 2× faster SSD performance
Also MR: there are no SSD benchmark results yet

I love getting raw data like this to make my purchasing decisions that much easier! :)
Yes, MR should have released benchmark results before having access to the physical device and before an embargo is lifted.

You may want to look what the word "rumors" means.

Time to add another confidently incorrect person to the growing list of people spreading this misinformation.

Maybe, YOU should look it up.
Never heard about any EU law forbidding chargers in laptops. So thats on Apple part. but as far as I know they lower the base price. more than they charge for the charger so thast OK. if oyu need one just add to your order. In poland base MBP 14 was 8499 now its 7999 and the charger is 319 or smthink like that..

Apple on Wednesday updated the 14-inch MacBook Pro base model with an M5 chip, and there are two key storage-related upgrades beyond that chip bump.

14-inch-MacBook-Pro-Keyboard.jpg

First, Apple says the new 14-inch MacBook Pro offers up to 2× faster SSD performance than the equivalent previous-generation model, so read and write speeds should get a significant boost. Apple says it is using "the latest storage technology," but it did not provide any further details, and there are no SSD benchmark results yet.

Second, Apple says the 14-inch MacBook Pro base model can now be configured with up to 4TB of storage, whereas the highest storage capacity offered for the equivalent previous-generation model was 2TB. However, the highest-end 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with M4 Max chips can be configured with up to 8TB of storage.

The new 14-inch MacBook Pro can be pre-ordered now, and it launches Wednesday, October 22. In the U.S., pricing for this model continues to start at $1,599.

When would these be available in store?

do you think they kept the Dual NAND chips for m5 mbp like we had in the m4?

I know the m4 mini and m4 air had Dual NAND on base model

This is not true. What is true is that the EU passed a law that affects chargers and laptops. By early next year laptops are required in the EU to have the option to be purchased without a bundled charger. There's no banning of bundled chargers, just requiring an option without one. Apple is following the law early.

Apple reduced the price of the M5 MacBook Pro by €100 compared to the M4 base model and now have the standard option to purchase the laptop without the charger.

See my reply above. This is because of an EU law.

and the thing is, had Apple not soldered down the wireless card as in the past, then we can still upgrade the wireless card manually to get the latest wi-fi and bluetooth without needing to switch to a new computer.
