New 15"MBP or Refurb 15 MBP with 2.93 CPU

I have made a decision to get a 15" MBP but I think I am getting the uMBP with the 2.93 for under $2,000.00.

Has anyone purchased the uMBP with the 2.93 or if you have the new uMBP with the 2.8 is it worth the $500.00 extra? I dont care about the SD slot, the battery is not critical so I do not see the extra value, but I thought I would get everyone's opinion to help me decide first.

What was the reason for you to stay with the older uMBP 2.93 instead of going to the newer one, and how did you get a 1 TB drive already

If it were me I'd pocket the extra cash and take the 2.9ghz speeeeed. Spend that $500 on another gadget or just save it 🙂

I have two Seagate 7200.4 500GB running in RAID 0 via the XtremeMacs OptiBay that is found on eBay.

From my understanding, the Early 2009 and Late 2008 uMBP will support the new WD 1TB 2.5" 12.7mm drive in the HDD position.

If you're comparing the 2.8 vs. the 2.93 I'm not so sure you'll see a huge uptick in performance. Maybe a few percentage points at most.

The March 2009 15" 2.66 and 2.93:

- Have ExpressCard slot
- Have removable battery
- Have 6 MiB of L2 cache
- Have 512 MiB of VRAM
- Can take 8 GiB of RAM
- Seem to take a 12.5mm hard disk
