I want to get the 7200 but I want to clone my desktop iMac. The total amount of used memory is close to 600 gigs. However, about 240 of that is movies and mp3s. These are files I don't want to transfer over to the MBP. Is it possible when you clone the desktop to choose which files to exclude in the transfer?

Or would you say it would just be easier to buy a 750 gig 7200 hard drive and have that installed?

From what I'm reading here, I want to get a 7200 drive but I also want to clone my desktop iMac. My iMac has about 600 gig consumed but about 240 of that is music and movies that I don't want to transfer into my new MBP. Is it possible to choose what files to include and not include when you clone your Mac?

Or...would it just be easier to buy and install a 750 gig 7200 drive separately?

Can anyone tell me what would be the REAL difference between both HDD? Let's say for everyday usage, would there be a noticable gain of speed with a 7200 or only when I do some audio/video?
I ask this because I've been told many times that when doing some audio processing it is better to use an external hdd. Therefore, I would probably go with a 5400 and a fast external hdd. What do u guys think?

get 7200 and an external harddrive if you need more space.

as far as i can gather from common sense, SSD @ 128GB is just not enough space for you and carrying around an external all the time could be a bit of a pain.

also SSDs in the next year or so will get much cheaper, better and increase in size to the extent where they will be much more practical IMO.

i swapped out a 320GB 5400 in my early 08' MBP for a 500GB 7200 drive and i noticed it was a bit faster.
