Apple priced me out of the 15" model, I can't see how the 16" laptop will change that situation. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Here in the EU the 15" is usually 2.799.

That's my maximum right there... Let's see how it goes with the 16".. However I'm only coming back on certain conditions such as redesigned keyboard that doesn't break every 6 months like my current one... And Navi GPU.

I just priced out the base i7, adding the better GPU, 32GB of ram, and a 1TB of storage, plus AC+ and my price is in the 3,300 range (before taxes).

My prior generation Thinkpad X1 Extreme, with a nvidia GPU, 32GB of ram and 1TB of storage (with 3 year warranty) clocked in at 2,286 (before taxes)

Granted, I could cut back on the storage/ram/GPU and the extended warranty to save money but why do that when I can configure another machine that fits my needs for grand less then what apple is charging. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

What's the Nvidia GPU you got in there? I saw the Lenovo X1 you got ad it looks like an awesome machine! If I didn't have the whole VM ecosystem around Mac OS in parallels and virtual box I would jump over for a while with the Dell XPS.

I find it ridiculous the base model coming with a 555X in 2019 lol.. Vega should be base.

I'm gonna wait and see what comes next

Being a 2018 generation, I'm rocking with a 1050-ti.

Yeah, I'm really happy with it. Its everything I hoped it would be.

Its personal preference but I do prefer nvidia, its not like I need cuda or anything but its simply personal preference so that was another motivating factor for me.

The straw that broke the camel's back for me, was the 2018 model's keyboard was failing like 2016, and 2017. its hard to justify paying such a premium amount with a known defective keyboard. I totally understand that apple kept making tweaks and its keyboard iteration is a little bit better, but its of little solace to those who are dealing with the failures.

I think a 16" laptop is a very tempting design, and I would love to see a 4k iteration, because I could definitely take advantage of the increased screen real estate but I'm under no illusions that if a 2019 15" MBP costs in the mid 3k range, a 16" model will be more not less.

The next 16mbp probably will come with the brand new Navi 14
24 CU Navi 14 and HMB2 VRAM. The energy efficiency of HMB2 + binning will allow it to maintain the same 50W TDP. Its performance should be around 1660 Ti

Specifically my post said that they will not replace a product while it is still designated "New" on the Apple Store Online. They will wait for this product to be out of New for a while before they introduce something else. That is the essence of my post. By first half of 2020 they'll remove the "New" badge and thats how we know we're in release territory.

Macbooks, when Kuo refers to the MacBook Pro, he says MacBook Pro. He was saying the rest of the line will be updated similar to the 16 inch MacBook Pro.

Oh ****. I didn't see that. And he does say the 16 this month. Ok then my bad people. I STILL maintain the 15" wont be replaced. We shall see I suppose.

I cut back on ram and storage to keep the price within range and now i'm having huge headaches trying to deal with the limitations. Annoyed I didn't upgrade the storage to 1TB if nothing else.... but the price was extortionate.

Its ok, i think the 15” will be sold next to the 16” because of the price for some period..but if both will share the same cpu like 8 cores i9 and the same vega 20..i dont see apple stick the 15” too more than 6 months

I did that and it was a major headache, I'll not look to do that any longer, hence my being priced out of the market :(

I was surprised by the 2019 model's graphics options remaining the same, the Radeon Pro chips are all pretty ancient now (more or less the same as what came with the 2016 models!). I didn't think for a moment they'd put Vega in the base $2,399 model, but thought perhaps it would get the 560X (if they were feeling generous) and certainly the $2,799 model would get the Vega 16 (to give their flagship stock model a somewhat modern/ competent GPU). This sort of thing just lets the value proposition of these computers slip further and further, not that Apple seem to give even a rudimentary care about that over the past 3-4 years... If the 16" launches with the 560X as it's default GPU that's going to be pretty cringeworthy.

Their rates are totally absurd.

Having said that, I've had no issues managing with 256GB. There are a few options, in no particular order:

* External HDD/SSD
* USB sticks
* NAS
* Cloud storage
* Using an old machine as a network server

I thought 256GB was ok up to 2015, before 4K video, live photos and increasing (HD) App sizes, Apple's actually gone backwards since then though. The $2,499 2015 model with 512GB has effectively been replaced by the $2,399 2019 model with 256, and the 512GB model has jumped to $2,799.

Now for a main computer 512GB is what I would call a comfortable minimum (that's to say usable without too much effort on managing data on external drives) and 256GB feels more like what you get on a cheaper model to cut the costs. Only Apple are offering it on their $2,400 computer, as well as their $1,700 one. If Apple were to add $100 to the base model and go back to where we were in 2015, I'd consider that much better value than what they're doing at the moment. By this stage the cycle there should have been ample amortisation on the design costs for them to be a little less mean with the storage tiers.

For sure, it totally depends on the size of the data set you're working with. If you're working with batches of photos sized at 20GB then 256GB might be plenty. Doing audio recording with 5GB data sets, obviously great too. But trying to manage 200GB video files on a 256GB system, that would be a nightmare.

I tend to work between 100GB free and 50GB free. When I'm down to 50GB free I'll offload until I have 100GB - 120GB free, then as it fills up again I'll offload. May not work for everyone but works perfectly for me.

I think Apple will finally get thin bezels on its MacBook Pro line with the 16 inch model and that it's clearly a direct replacement for the 15 inch.

In fact, I wonder if there might be room for a low-end 16 inch model with a 10 series CPU and integrated graphics only. Perhaps even dropping the touch bar (which I fear will return).

Apple seem to love underpowered entry level machines to lower 'from $x' sticker price.

Then the rest of the line-up could go 9th gen or unreleased 10th gen (rebadged 14nm) plus some kind of Navi gpu. Top end spec will already be super expensive, so no need for a separate expensive Pro line-up!

If they want to go the Pro route, just re-colour the body with an exclusive 'Pro' anodised finish and stick a Fire 'mobile workstation' branded Navi card in it and a 4TB SSD. $$$

The thin bezels and the Navi GPU are those two things I'm most interested about regarding these new models. I wanna jump over from the 13".. But the current Pros have ridiculous GPUs in them for a 2019 machine.

I have a 256GB and I carry a single Windows VM on it around 50GB... Besides that I have the Office suite, SAP programs and some other ones. (Final Cut Pro too) and I still have 85GB left.

I usually run another Windows/Linux VM off from the SSD...

Honestly come next refresh would be nice to see the 15" start from 512GB but doubt it.

Exactly.. One of the reasons why I would have to consider twice before getting an actual 15" even on discount for the base model.
