Howdy - long time forum reader - first time poster. So glad to have grabbed this new machine - love the industrial design!

I'm a bit stumped - the Mac OS file is already quite huge - 23GB when it should be 12GB - I was wondering if anyone else was experiencing this Mac OS bloat?

Any tips on reducing this? Going to install the 12.0.1 update right now.

Yeah, something fishing with yours. I have a 1TB SSD here and the OS is 15.7GB.

Ok, a SW update seemed to get it reduced! Thank you!

15.7 is the usual number and is consistent with the size of the System Volume shown in Disk Utility. (Screenshot below)

Your screenshot shows only two colour bars and a lot of grey, how long did you leave it?...it takes a little while to fully calculate.

What does your Disk Utility show?

Glad it fixed itself...your reply came while I was preparing mine.

Over the years I have not found that coloured Storage bar very reliable, or used it much.

The Gray bar to the right of the macOS is System Data - which in this case I just mirrored my Google Drive with the computer - and I think it is registering as that.

Thank you all - I feel at home here in these forums.
