It's not Apple's QC anyway, the panels are made by LG and Samsung. At best you can fault Apple for making a poor choice of panel.
White LED rather than RGB LED.
As white LED's are really blue LED's with a coating of yellow phosphor, if the balance is off you can get a tint. But it's cheaper.

I hear you but in the end Apple is responsible for their product. This acceptance that X percentage will be bad out of the box and the customer can just get it serviced or replaced pisses me off as an end user. Especially since the percentage of faulty out of the box electronics is on the rise and the prices are so high as it is. It is not too much to ask to get what you paid for and were sold...a functional product. Perfection is impossible but there are way too many issues to say "nothing is perfect". Cost cutting to increase profits is the obvious culprit.
