January 5~9, 2009 with the keynote on the 6th, I believe.
I am a pro photographer using photoshop. so performance is paramount.
Hard to say right now, but if there's none at Macworld, then the chance is basically 0%.
The 17" high-res display (now it's by default) has 78% higher resolution than the 15" display. The usable resolution increases even more.
Also it is notable that the last update did not increase CPU GHz's any significant amount (one model dropped by .4 GHz). So given that and Intel's releasing speed bumped CPUs in Q1 2009 tells me we may see a slightly faster than 2.53 GHz 17" MacBook Pro (2.67 GHz?). I don't expect quad-core, since they are too hot for the MacBook Pro.
Quads core MBP are a possibility.. the new 45nm processors have a 45Watt TDP.. correct me if I'm wrong. my 2.5GHz cpu has a 20Watt TDP. so the quad uses just over twice the power but may have a lot more bang for your buck..
But to the OP, Waiting for the new Macbook Pro will reward you greatly.
There are many performance increases with the new Macbook Pro, the Processor may run at the same speed but the RAM runs at a higher speed allowing for large photos to edited easily. If every second matters to you, wait until the newer MBP's come out.
Some one mentioned the Glossy screen, I personally don't find it to be nearly as bothersome as everyone made it out to be. but that's my opinion.
